    The assignment this week is to show the potential impact various HR functions or activities have on the three major financial statements. 
    First, create a table that listed the major components of the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements. Next, explain how HR can impact those components. For example, reducing the time to fill a position could potentially increase revenue on the Income Statement.  Or, expanding the time to pay a vendor for an HRIS system will improve cash flow from operations.  What about DSO’s or sales commissions or benefits or PTO or training or…. hopefully you get the idea.

The textbook states that civil rights are the “rights to which people are entitled because they are members of society which are often ensured and protected through laws, resources, and services” (Segal, 2015). In simple terms, they are related because civil rights facilitate a legal mechanism by which social justice can be upheld within society.

    Upon the heels of the Civil War, the civil rights movement fought for social equality and social justice. The equal protection clause of the fourteenth amendment is an important citizen protection of civil rights. It states that: “no State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws”. In other words, this is a constitutional guarantee that no person or group of persons will denied protection under the law nor treated differently. This correlates to social justice as it enforces the concept of treating all individuals within society fairly.

    Despite this landmark legislation within U.S. history, barriers that may impede social justice include: prejudice, discrimination, and oppression (Segal, 2015). Within the context of these elements, civil rights may not uphold true social justice within society.     Elizabeth Segal describes social justice as a component of civil rights. (Segal, 2015). Social justice was established to ensure people of society are treated fairly and equally. This allows the same basic rights, opportunities, and benefits for all. Social justice and civil rights are related because civil rights guarantee security in society by laws and constitutions and social justice find ways to enforce and provide equality for groups of our society. 
    An example of civil rights would be the bill passed in 1920 that granted women of American to vote. Due to civil rights, a law was passed that forced society to accept that women should have equal rights as men and was given the right to vote. An example of social justice would be the Black Lives Matter campaign. This movement was established by members of a race that felt that they were not being treated equally which goes against their civil rights. Social justice search to provide those equal rights that all should have.
