Collaborative Engagement and Transformation: Analyzing Diversity Conversations within a Chosen Population
Overview
For this activity, you will critically analyze how those within your chosen population engage with your topic. You will identify what is already working well and opportunities for change. Completing this activity will result in a draft of the critical analysis section of your project. It also provides an opportunity to obtain valuable feedback from your instructor that you can incorporate into your project submission.
Directions
In this activity, you will consider the elements of your topic you can develop to encourage, promote, and transform conversations about diversity. Include diverse perspectives from varied sources to support your points. You should continue to gather the sources you will integrate into your final project, which include two resources from course materials and two resources from the library. Look to the SNHU Shapiro Library for assistance in finding evidence and resources from outside the course. For this activity, you will discuss how to collaborate constructively with your chosen population group. You will then describe at least one positive element related to your topic and, finally, one element that could benefit from change.
You are not required to answer each question below the rubric criteria but may use them to better understand the criteria and guide your thinking.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
Integrate reliable evidence from varied sources throughout your paper to support your analysis.
It is important to draw from a more diverse pool of perspectives from varied sources to support the analysis. This is different from the Citations and Attributions rubric criterion.
Reliable evidence from varied sources should be interwoven throughout the paper itself, while citing and attributing sources will be represented as APA in-text citations and a reference list at the end of your work.
You will be evaluated on both criteria.
Discuss how you would constructively collaborate with your population to encourage their engagement with your chosen topic.
Consider how you would develop a dialogue with your population about the topic you have chosen. What are your ideas for supporting constructive and inclusive conversation and programs of engagement?
Describe at least one positive element within your topic that supports transformation.
What conversational and collaborative approaches have already been successful? Visualize how this positive element could have a ripple effect towards a transformative conversation about your topic. This is not simply your opinion but should be supported by reliable evidence.
If you do not think your topic has been engaged with positively or successfully, explain why you have come to this conclusion.
Describe at least one specific element within your topic that could benefit from change.
What potential opportunities are there to improve your topic? What could be done differently to encourage, promote, or transform your topic? Build off ways that your topic has been discussed and represented in the past. This is not simply your opinion but should be supported by reliable evidence.
What to Submit
Submit your short paper as a 1- to 2-page Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Sources should be cited according to APA style -

Ethical Dilemmas in Counseling Relationships: Navigating State Laws, Diverse Populations, and Interdisciplinary Teams
Identify the Ethical Dilemma: Before a counselor can consider how state laws, statutes, or district policies may influence an approach, the counselor must first identify the issue and consider any relevant ethical concerns.
Describe all ethical dilemma(s) presented in the case.
Identify unavailable facts relative to the ethical dilemma(s).
State Laws and Regulations: Earlier in this course, you identified the state laws and regulations relating to the practice of counseling for your specialization.
Describe at least two state legal standards that help guide counselors to establish ethical relationships with clients or students through two specific requirements (for example, informed consent, managing boundaries, payment for services).
Include any additional state statutes or local district policies that guide counselors (you may include a link to the statutes or policies).
Reflect on the impact state laws have on the counseling relationship.
Diverse Populations: Ethical issues are an integral part of counseling diverse clients, as counselors must uphold ethical standards while being sensitive to cultural and individual differences. Here are some ethical issues that may arise when counseling diverse clients: Cultural competence, informed consent, confidentiality, dual relationships, boundaries, values, beliefs, and multicultural competence.
Describe the ethical responsibilities when counseling diverse populations.
For example, in the sessions the client discloses personal beliefs that are opposed to the personal beliefs and/or values you hold. Ethical counselors will recognize the need for additional supervision to ensure that they are not trying to push personal values and beliefs onto their clients.
Explain how ethical responsibilities affect the counseling relationship in a way that is well supported by the literature.
Ethical Codes and Standards: The purpose of ethical codes is to uphold the integrity of the counseling profession, advance the welfare of clients, and direct ethical decision-making in our practice.
Describe three specific ethical codes/standards that would guide you in managing the relationship in the ethical dilemma.
Explain how these codes/standards could be applied to mitigate the ethical dilemma.
Interdisciplinary Team: You want to consider the role that interdisciplinary teams may play in counseling relationships. The term “interdisciplinary team” is used to represent any internal/external stakeholders, educational system, legal system, or emergency management teams.
Articulate strategies for interfacing ethically with the interdisciplinary team involved in a case.
Explain the impact this interaction might have on the counseling relationship.

Title: “Exploring Self-Concept and Cultural Influences: A Personal Reflection”
As I sit down to write this post, I find this discussion topic to be rather difficult. It truly forces one to be introspective, something that I realize I do not do very often. Initially, what came to mind is that I am a woman and a wife. However, this saddened me because I am much more than just my gender and marital status. Having lived through the traumatic experience of having an alcoholic father, it truly shaped me into the person I am today. Knowing I did not want a life like his, I worked hard to become a Dental Hygienist and am now finishing my degree at the University of Guelph. Although growing up in this household was difficult, it allowed me to develop the self-concept traits of being hardworking, patient, and adaptable.
Some positive self-illusions I often demonstrate are the self-serving beliefs of unrealistic optimism and perceived control. Unsurprisingly, negative experiences were frequent in my childhood, and I lived through them. I often find myself believing that things aren’t really as bad as they could be, and because I lived through such negative experiences, only positive experiences are more likely to occur now. Similarly, growing up in a household of unpredictability caused me to create a need for control. I often find myself believing I can control the uncontrollable and create a predictable outcome.
I grew up in a Polish household, and perhaps as a child, I would define myself as being Polish and embracing the traditions that come with the heritage. But now that I am older, and my parents are deceased, I am no longer surrounded by much Polish culture. Instead, I would say that my values are influenced by Canadian culture, and thus, I have a more independent self-construal when it comes to my cultural influences.

REWRITE THE BOTTOM
Richard Ramirez Cruz
Biology 40B Human Anatomy and Physiology Lab
Professor Garcia

Extra Credit Assignment: Study Habits and Strategies for Anatomy and Physiology Lab Practical
Section 1: Personal Study Habits
Describe Your Study Routine:
I began studying about three weeks before the lab practical. I work 40 hours per week, so I typically study for one to two hours after work, focusing on memorizing terminology for structures and models covered in class, such as the brain, eyes, and ears.
I dedicated approximately 15-20 hours per week to studying the course material. I also dedicated time to studying during my vacation because passing the exam was very important to me.
For the lab practical, I studied daily. This consistent schedule helped me memorize terms effectively. Once I mastered a set of terms, I moved on to the next topic.
Study Methods:
I used online resources provided by the professor on Canvas, such as Youtube videos and histology slides. I also utilized handouts from the lab sessions, creating labels with terms to place on worksheets.
Yes, the handouts from Professor Garcia were particularly helpful as they provided a clearer idea of what to expect on the lab practical exam.
Environment:
I studied at work during lunch breaks and at home after work. Studying at home was more effective as I felt comfortable and could take breaks as needed. Due to my full-time job, I couldn’t join study groups with peers.
Studying in a distraction-free environment at home was very effective. It allowed me to focus without interruptions from surrounding noises.
Section 2: Effective Study Strategies for Anatomy and Physiology
Recommended Strategies:
1. Active Recall and Spaced Repetition: These methods enhance long-term retention. By repeatedly testing myself on key concepts at increasing intervals, I reinforced my memory.
2. Use of Visual Aids: Diagrams, models, and videos provided a clearer understanding of anatomical structures and their functions. For instance, watching dissection videos helped me visualize and remember the spatial relationships between different organs.
3. Taking Breaks: Taking breaks helped me avoid feeling overwhelmed. Breaks served as rewards, and every time I memorized a specific subject, I gave myself a break.
Active recall and spaced repetition are effective memory retention approaches. Visual tools help visual learners understand complicated structures. Breaks reduce burnout and increase focus and productivity.
Resource Recommendations:
– “Kaplan Medical Anatomy Flashcards”: Excellent for visual learners and helped with quick recall of anatomical structures.
– YouTube: Provided detailed explanations and visualizations of physiological processes.
– Quizlet: Useful for spaced repetition and active recall through customizable flashcards.
Section 3: Timing of Lab Practical Questions
Question Timing Reflection:
I think 90 seconds per question can be too short for some students who do not perform well under pressure. In addition to this complex questions might require more time, while simpler ones need less.
Suggestions for Improvement:
I would recommend allowing a set amount of overall time for the practical, giving students the flexibility to allocate their time as needed. This approach could reduce pressure and accommodate different pacing needs. Additionally, clarifying some of the questions to avoid ambiguity would help. For example, during the lab practical, some questions pointed to areas that could have more than one correct answer, which was challenging.
