Each discussion has a preparation section that contains statistical software exercises. You must complete these exercises before beginning the discussions each week.
This week, you will be working through the following exercises:
Enter the data from Table 2.5 in your Statistics for the Health Sciences textbook in an Excel file.
Save the Excel file as a .csv file and open the .csv file in JASP.
Generate a histogram and boxplot for each variable.
    Generate a scatterplot.
    Additionally, generate the following:
    Mean.
    Median.
    Mode.
    Range.
    Standard deviation.

Every time you generate outputs in a statistical software exercise, you will be required to interpret and report the results. Both the Word document and the output files must be uploaded to your discussion post.
Upload the .jasp file. Make sure you have saved your .jasp file after running your procedures to save the outputs.
Include a separate Word document in which you interpret and report the results of the graphs or tables (summary statistics, scattergram, box-plot, and histogram) you generated. Format your document using APA style.
    Discussion Post
For the purposes of contributing to this week’s scholarly discussion, complete the following:
Post an example of how you might use descriptive statistics in your professional setting.

  • Assessing Asthma Risk and Prevalence in a Grade School Population: Implications for Public Health Prevention Programs

In Week 4, you will continue to assume the role of the public health informatician and use your pre-intervention asthma surveillance data set from the CDC to calculate risk/odds ratios and prevalence/incidence rates. Review the data set from a population perspective and calculate various population ratios and rates for the asthma data in your Excel spreadsheet. You will then answer the following questions in a short application paper of 3–4-pages, explaining your results. You may refer to the suggested readings for this week. Ratios and Rate Questions [Note: School populations: Asthma elementary student count in this study is 800 for this school year. School’s population (A + B + C + D) = 7,200 students for this school year.] Does one school have a higher number of students with asthma? Which school has the highest number of students with wheezing? How many students had both asthma and wheezing? If you have asthma, what are the odds that you also have wheezing? Is the odds ratio for bronchitis and RAD lower or higher than asthma and wheezing? How many children with wheezing were prescribed medication? From those results, what is the risk ratio? Is the risk ratio for being prescribed medication for asthma higher or lower than being prescribed medication for wheezing? Are the risk ratios for asthma and wheezing higher for children under the age of 10 than they are for the survey population as a whole? What is the student asthma prevalence for the school district, i.e., A, B, C, D based on total student population as shown above? What is the student asthma incident rate for the school district, i.e., A, B, C, D based on total student population as shown above? In a summary, provide your interpretation of what your statistical ratio and rate calculations results demonstrate about this grade school population of students’ asthma risk and odds ratios, prevalence, and incidence rates. Explain how you may use this data in supporting the need and development of a public health asthma prevention program. You may use the prevalence resources in the links provided for your summary response. Submission Details: Give reasons and examples in support of your responses. Cite all sources using APA format. Submit a 3–4-page paper in a Microsoft Word document

  • “360-Degree Appraisal: A Comprehensive Performance Management Tool for Organizational Success” Developing Talent: Utilizing 360-Degree Feedback and Internships/Apprenticeships

    360-Degree Appraisal
The 360-degree appraisal approach entails collecting performance information from several workers who interact with the employee being evaluated. For example, information can be collected from supervisors, subordinates, customers, and peers. In some situations, employees also evaluate their own work as a part of the 360-degree appraisal process. The 360-degree appraisal is designed to provide a comprehensive perspective on an employee’s performance. Some organizations use the 360-degree appraisal process mainly for developmental purposes because the results can be contradicting. The 360-degree appraisal process is a helpful foundational step to learning an employee’s strengths and weaknesses and then using that information for generating goals for MBO. Most employees prefer the 360-degree appraisal process because of its comprehensiveness and the amount of information that emerges from multiple sources. The following image is an example of different individuals who could potentially evaluate an employee during a 360-degree appraisal.
Potential Individuals Involved in a 360-Degree Feedback Appraisal Process
    Assignment
Create a slide presentation that you will be presenting to your entire organization relating to the implementation of a 360-degree feedback appraisal process. Prepare 10-15 slides and notes to go along with each.
Make a persuasive presentation. As the VP of HR (known for being creative and intelligent), your task will be to define this unique performance management appraisal tool, how it will be implemented, the added value to each employee of using this type of system, and what the consequences might be of an employee receiving a low rating.
