  • “Effective Compliance Training in the Health Care Industry: A Presentation for Department Heads” Title: “Compliance in Health Care: Understanding Regulations, Ethics, and Continuous Readiness”

At this point in your academic career, you know that health care is a heavily regulated industry. While applicable regulations may vary from one organization type to the next, the typical health care organization must navigate through a wide array of laws, quality standards, regulations, and ethical considerations as part of day-to-day operations. What this means is that the staff working in these organizations must also fully understand their organization’s regulatory environment and their role in regulatory compliance.
Successful compliance depends on how well the staff is trained. Managers need to be able to teach their staff compliance best practices. The compliance content in the training is one aspect of the health care manager’s job. The other critical aspect of the job is to be able to convey the compliance content effectively and efficiently. In today’s environment, it is not enough to simply place a check mark next to the staff trained item on the manager’s to-do list. Staff members need to be able to retain the compliance best practices they have learned and apply them on the job. In successful health care organizations, compliance training does not just need to be done; it needs to be done effectively and efficiently. This is no easy task, given the complexity of health care regulations.
In this assignment, you will continue your work on a team-based initiative for Vila Health’s chief compliance officer. For the purpose of this assignment, you will assume the role of quality assurance officer in your health care organization. You have been tasked with the responsibility of developing a presentation that prepares the organization’s department heads to deliver the compliance training to their staff members.
    Preparation
Conduct independent research on these topics:
Regulations, accreditation requirements, and ethical standards that govern the health care industry. Current best practices in compliance training and health care industry-accepted training programs.
Consult the resources in the weekly readings as a starting point for your research. You may also want to consult the Health Care Administration Undergraduate Library Research Guide for additional guidance on how to conduct scholarly, professional research.
    Instructions
Assume the role of a quality assurance officer at one of Vila Health’s community-based hospitals. You recently received approval from your organization’s senior leaders to provide compliance training to all staff members based on the new approach to compliance your organization has adopted.
Because of the number of staff requiring training, you will not be able to deliver the compliance training yourself. Instead, your organization’s department heads will conduct the training for their departments. Your job is to develop a presentation to help the department heads train their staff on the organization’s new approach to compliance.
You have scheduled a meeting with the department heads to introduce the compliance training. For most presentations like this, you will get only 3–5 minutes to make your points, so you must keep it concise. As you are doing your planning for your presentation to department heads, you have decided that your presentation needs to consist of two parts:
Part One: Background on Regulation, Accreditation, and Ethics in Health Care.
This addresses the compliance content department heads need to cover in their staff training sessions. Part Two: Compliance Training Effectiveness.
This addresses how to design and deliver compliance training that staff members retain and apply on the job. You have determined you will need 7–10 slides to cover the content you plan to deliver to the department heads. You have also created an outline of what specifically you need to include in your presentation. Here is the outline you created:
Part One: Background on Regulation, Accreditation, and Ethics in Health Care
    In four to six slides:
Analyze regulatory, ethical, and accreditation compliance in health care (one slide).
Distinguish accreditation from regulations and ethical considerations in health care. Highlight the risks and consequences of noncompliance and ethical breaches (1–2 slides). Analyze important health care regulations, such as privacy laws, quality standards, and patient rights (three slides).
Present key ethical considerations all staff must understand (one slide).
Explain how the concept of continuous readiness applies to compliance (one slide).
    Part Two: Compliance Training Effectiveness
    In three to four slides:
Explain best practices for training health care staff on compliance (1–2 slides).
Conclude with a final meaningful compliance message, such as a motivational statement or a quote about compliance (one slide).
Include your reference slide with APA-formatted references (one slide). See Evidence and APA.
Now that you have your outline in hand, develop your presentation to department heads on the organization’s new compliance training program that they will be delivering to their staff members.
    Additional Requirements
Your assignment should meet the following requirements:
Written communication: Your slides need to include bullet points highlighting the key concepts. Avoid using block paragraphs or pictures only. Make sure your content is clear, persuasive, well organized, and free of errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Title slide: Develop a descriptive title for your presentation of 5–15 words. It should stir interest yet maintain professional decorum. Length: 7–10 slides. Slides should be professional and appropriately balance text and visuals. Avoid making your slides too text heavy. Instead make use of speaker notes to include additional content. References and reference slide: Include a minimum of three citations of peer-reviewed sources in current APA format on a final reference slide.
Review the Compliance Training Scoring Guide so that you understand how your faculty member is going to evaluate your work. Submit your assignment as a PowerPoint presentation. Review the resource, Guidelines for Effective PowerPoint Presentations [PPTX] for PowerPoint tips.

  • Thesis Statement Draft and Source Evaluation for Electric Vehicle Production in the United States

Thesis Statement Draft and Source Evaluation
In Modules 1 and 2 you chose a course project topic and narrowed your focus through the process of brainstorming and finding preliminary sources. Each week make sure you are reading your instructor’s feedback and making improvements before submitting the next Milestone. For example, if your instructor suggested replacing any of the sources you listed in Milestone 2, or refining your narrowed topic of focus, make sure to take that into account before submitting Milestone 3.
Now, in Module 3, you will draft a thesis statement and evaluate your sources for relevance and credibility.
    This is the template:
Instructions: Replace the example wording in brackets below with your wording for each prompt.
    IND101 Milestone 3 Template
    1. Thesis statement:
[Example: The US government should increase incentives for the production and consumption of electric
cars because they are still too expensive for most consumers, US consumption is falling behind other
nations, and electric cars are effective at reducing carbon dioxide emissions, which contribute to climate
    change.]
    2. In-depth evaluation of one source:
Source (not required to be in APA format, but must include author, date, title, and a link):
[Example: Sperling, D. (2018). Electric vehicles: Approaching the tipping point. Bulletin of the Atomic
    Scientists, 74(1), 11–18.

    • Relevance: This source is very relevant to my topic because it concerns the future of electric
vehicle production in the United States. The article also compares government policies on
electric and non-electric vehicles in multiple countries, including China, France, and Britain. This
will be useful in thinking about the second point of my thesis statement about how the US
compares to other nations in electric car production.
    • Authority: The author of this article, Dr. Daniel Sperling, is a professor of civil and environmental
engineering at UC Davis. His area of expertise is in the environmental impact of motor vehicles.
He has a considerable number of publications and is a recognized authority on this subject.
    • Currency: This article was published in January of 2018, so it is relatively current, but not the
most up to date on the topic. This field is changing quickly, so articles that articles that have
come out in the past two years may be more useful.
    • Objectivity: The author is a trained scientist and engineer so although he may have personal
biases, his work would be likely to be objective in its use of evidence and conclusions. The article
also includes a disclosure statement noting no potential conflict of interest for the author.
According to its website, the publication Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists is a nonprofit that
“informs the public about threats to the survival of humanity from nuclear weapons, climate
change, and disruptive technologies” (https://thebulletin.org/about-us/). This means that the
publication would be more likely to publish pieces like Sperling’s which advocate for potential
solutions to climate change and use non-technical language to communicate to the public.

  • “Building on the Elephant Welfare Initiative: Modifying and Refining Behavior Observation Protocols and Ethograms for a New Species” “Exploring the Importance of Academic Writing and APA Guidelines”

The development of behavior observation protocols and their associated ethogram is a complex and detail-oriented task. High-quality protocols and ethograms are often constructed by combining, modifying, and refining prior ethograms; there is no point in reinventing the wheel, when you can make that wheel better. Given this is common practice in the field of ethology, we will be doing something similar with this project.
The protocols and ethogram presented below were developed for the Elephant Welfare Initiative (Meehan et al., 2019). At the time this was one of the most robust and detailed ethograms available to welfare scientists working to understand and the welfare of zoo housed elephants. Although these protocols and their associated ethogram were developed for elephants, there is considerable value in building on the existing framework. It is your job to do just that. Review the EWI’s protocols and ethogram in the Worksheet, then modify and revise these to fit protocols and definitions you find in the literature on your species.
Download a copy of AB 201 Behavior Ethogram Worksheet Template (DOCX) Download AB 201 Behavior Ethogram Worksheet Template (DOCX), you will be modifying and editing it. When savinyour copy, include your last name, first initial, study species, and Etho Worksheet; For example: Smith,J_Ants_Etho Worksheet.docx.
Review the EWI’s data collection protocols and ethogram listed under the header Observation Protocols and Ethogram. A walkthrough of this process provided in Ethogram Worksheet Overview minilecture above.
While reviewing these, modify and refine them to fit your study species. We provide some examples for modifications/revisions in the mini lecture “The Elephant Welfare Initiative: Exploring Ethogram Construction” and in the “Revision Tips” columns in the AB 201 Behavior Ethogram Worksheet Template.
In addition to using the provided examples, you will need to pull information about your species from peer reviewed and empirical literature. Do your best with the revision process. This is a new challenge for you; mistakes will be made. As such, consider this is a first draft. Your protocols and ethogram do not need to be perfect. At the end of the term, you will have the opportunity to reflect upon what worked well and what did not in the Revision statement of your course project.
When modifying the protocols and ethogram components, use bold text and comments to help your instructor assess your responses.
If you used published literature (e.g., existing ethograms) when revising ethogram definitions to fit your species, cite the source using APA format.
After completing your modifications and revisions, summarize them in the Student Modification Record section within the AB 201 Behavior Ethogram Worksheet Template.
Remember to cite any literature you used to update your protocols and ethogram.
To receive full credit, this list should outline at least five revisions or modifications.
You may use the two revisions you proposed as part of the Week 2 Discussion: Fail to Plan is a Plan to Fail.
Upload your Ethogram Worksheet to the Canvas by Sunday.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Unless asked to do so by your instructor, do not make further changes to your protocols or ethogram after turning in your assignment. You will be locked into the protocols and ethogram definitions you select as soon as we begin data collection in Week 3.
