“Navigating the World of Autism: 10 Recommendations for Families of Newly Diagnosed Children” “Guiding Families to Reliable Resources: Tips for Effective Recommendations”
Overview:
As a provider working with families who have a child on the autism spectrum, families rely on you to help them navigate this new world they have entered. Physicians are often the first provider a family encounters when learning their child has developmental delays, but as a therapist (speech, behavior, autism, occupational, etc.), psychologist, case manager, special education teacher, or family advocate, you are likely to be the family’s ongoing service provider with whom they have come to rely on for information.
You are to develop at least 10 recommendations for a family who has just learned their 24-month old son or daughter has autism. The family has not been in contact with any services up to this point, and is asking your help in finding what they need to provide the most comprehensive service plan for their child. The focus of this assignment is to point the family to the resources available in their community, not develop specific behavior goals or treatments. The purpose is for you to learn about the resources available in your community so that you are better prepared to help a family who has just received a diagnosis. Remember that not all families can afford private services and must rely on the federally funded services from the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, IDEA, thus finding these resources for the parent is very important.
Recommendations are typically several sentences long and provide an explanation of why it is recommended and where the family can go to find the service. Provide phone numbers, websites, and addresses when necessary (i.e., providing a family with contact information to a local ABA clinic). Recommendations should include all of the following:
1. What is it? Include a description of the service. Put the description in your own words and do not copy off the internet.
2. Why is it important? Include a reason why this resource is necessary for the family. Make this personal to the family and validate their needs and feelings.
3. How can the family get in contact with the agency/sign up for the service? Include contact information.
Sometimes, you find helpful handouts on the Internet that correspond to a specific service. If you find one, attach it to your assignment.
Of the 10 recommendations, you must develop recommendations for the following services:
Your local 0-3 intervention service (Part C services). Consult http://ectacenter.org/contact/ptccoord.aspLinks to an external site. to help you determine the correct early intervention provider in your area.
Preschool services under IDEA (Part B services). This would be through the local public school system in your area
Financial aspects of autism treatment (waivers, supplemental insurance, etc.).
You are not limited to these topics, and I expect you to gather information from this module’s readings and videos to help you determine what other services are needed for this child. Don’t forget to review the Easter Seals website at http://www.easterseals.com/explore-resources/living-with-autism/state-autism-profiles.htmlLinks to an external site. to help you with your assignment. You are not limited to this website either.
International students should still include any resources they can for the requirements above, but they are not expected to have resources that align with United States guidelines. Please research the guidelines in your country. If you prefer, you may choose Indiana (as your university’s home state) and provide recommendations for Indiana. Please make it clear that you are providing recommendations for another country.
Please see the rubric below to see how you will be graded.
Dos and Don’ts to remember:
Be sure to personalize the recommendations to the family. Let them know why it is important.
Don’t use jargon or acronyms without explaining it.
Don’t copy and paste description of resources directly from the internet.
Even though you might know classmates who have completed this assignment in the past, don’t rely on the fact that they got it right even if they received a good grade.
Give the family enough information about the resource so that they don’t have to go searching for more.
If you want to recommend several centers that provide the same type of service (i.e. ABA clinics) then that only counts as one recommendation with multiple contacts. It is great to give the family options, but they need to be separate ideas.
Don’t copy and paste contact information from websites. This tends to mess up your formatting. -
“Critical Analysis of Theories Used in the Power Point Presentation on [Topic]”
You are required to write concisely to transmit your analysis based on the power point presentation attached. (check the notes for each slides for more details)
Initially, you should provide a brief introduction to set the context of the presentation
You are advised to keep the ‘brief’ Introduction section for Part A to
within 120 words.
Note: do not just describe what the presentation is saying (we already know that from the presentation).
For example, you could consider such issues as:
• Critically evaluate the appropriateness of the theories mentioned
• Could the chosen theories have been better utilised?
• Could other theories have been drawn on to help you to better address the task?
Therefore, do not just describe the theory or theories applied – think
about what you have learned and what you would do differently next time (and
why!) – you need to be able to justify your decisions. As part of a critical reflection,
you need to also consider the limitations of your work (not just the positives) – you
need to think about what improvements could have been made. -

“Transforming Health and Combatting Obesity in the US: Utilizing the Maharishi Effect for Lasting Solutions” Introduction: – The US is facing a major health crisis with high rates of obesity and related health issues. – According to the Centers for
Create the Maharishi Effect
The theme is health/obesity in the US
Propose a project or research study to create the Maharishi Effect in some area of society or to address an acute social problem or enhance societal success. The area of society or social problem could be on any level of collective consciousness: family, community, groups (businesses or social organizations), city, state, nation, or world. Your assignment over the Friday afternoon and Saturday morning of Week 3 is to make an outline or draft for a 10 minute presentation on your proposal that includes:
1) an introduction to the need for a solution to a social problem using relevant statistics (online research or chatGPT) that define the problem or need for enhancement, and how traditional (old) approaches have failed to provide lasting solutions;
2) a section that describes the underlying theory or principles of the Maharishi Effect as a new approach to the social problem;
3) a results section that summarizes Maharishi Effect research relevant to the social problem, and/or proposes a new research study to investigate a solution using the Maharishi Effect (drawing on previous research), and;
4) a summary or conclusion section that draws these sections together and makes a strong argument for this new approach—ending with an emphatic call to action.
Again, the assignment is to first make an outline or first draft.

Preparing the Discussion
Follow these guidelines when completing each component of the discussion. Contact your course faculty if you have questions.
General instruction:
Locate a news story or other resource from the last six months regarding an issue in healthcare and answer all questions/criteria with explanations and detail.
Include the following sections:
Application of Course Knowledge
Summarize the issue.
Discuss how the issue may impact nursing practice at the micro-, meso-, and macro-levels of the healthcare system.
Analyze how healthcare policy impacts the issue.
Include a link to the news story or resource.

“The Vital Role of the Liver, Pancreas, and Kidneys: A Case Analysis on Their Impact on Human Health”
For your signature assignment, compose a 3- to 4-page case analysis (in addition to a title page, abstract, and reference list page) written in APA Style citing at least 3 references with one non-Internet reference. The following should be covered in the paper:
Title Page: Case Title, Full Name, Section, Date, Instructor, and Campus
Abstract: Summarize the case
One non-indented paragraph on a separate page.
This will be page 2.
Introduction: The physiological importance of the liver, pancreas, and kidneys for the proper functioning of the human body
Body: Response to the prompts: Organize your analysis with headings that thoroughly answer the prompts (e.g., “Abnormal Glucose Levels” for question 1).
Explain each prompt in depth with physiological concepts and provide sufficient evidence from the literature for each prompt. o Include normal physiological ranges (if it applies).
Maintain the order of questions when answering.
Conclusion: Summarize the paper in a paragraph. -
Title: Understanding Pathophysiology: A Comprehensive Analysis of [Condition]
APA 7th edition Title page:
This is a separate page by itself, with the following information centered in the middle of the page: course title, paper title, student’s name, instructor’s name, and date.
Description of Pathology:
Start the paper on a new page.
In this section, you will describe the pathology (statistics about it, background information, etc.). Give as much information as you can about it but be sure it is relevant information and not just filler. It should be a comprehensive introductory section of the condition in one to two paragraphs.
Normal anatomy of the major body system affected: In this section, you will describe what is considered normal anatomy for your particular pathophysiology. For example, if you are discussing a disease related to the brain, explain what is normal for the brain from an anatomical standpoint. You should show comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental concepts and communicate information using scientific vocabulary. There should be little to no discussion of the condition itself in this section.
Normal physiology of the major body system affected: In this section, you will be discussing physiology. Keep in mind that when describing physiology, it isn’t enough to merely provide a list of functions of the body system (Ex: Neurons send signals throughout the body), instead, you need to be able to describe how it does it. The how is the physiology. There should be little to no discussion of the condition itself in this section
Mechanism of Pathophysiology: This section is likely going to be the most in-depth and longest section. In this section, you will explain your particular pathophysiology from a scientific standpoint. In the previous two sections, you explained what is considered normal, in this section, you should describe what the pathophysiology is doing that is causing these issues, how the normal anatomy & physiology is affected/different in a person with your condition. You should show a thorough understanding of the anatomical and physiological changes contributing to the disease. Some good keywords to search for when doing your research might be “Pathology of __________”, Pathophysiology of __________.”
Prevention: In this section, you will explain how your pathophysiology could be prevented. This should outline possible prevention protocols, or clearly indicate if none is available based on the current scientific literature.
Treatment: In this section, you will explain how your pathophysiology is commonly treated. Provide possible treatment protocols for the condition based on current scientific literature. Be sure to bring in nursing relevant information and how you might be involved in the treatment of the condition.
Conclusion: Finally you should summarize your findings. All good research papers should include a conclusion where you wrap up and summarize all of the important points made in your paper.
References:
As with the Title page, this should be a separate page by itself.
All references should be included in correct and complete APA format.
All references must be cited appropriately in the paper using APA-style in-text citations.
A minimum of three reputable sources are required for this assignment.
