Determine if the publication is current.
Determine if information in the academic peer-reviewed journal article is still relevant.
Analyze academic peer-reviewed journal articles using the annotated bibliography organizational format. Provide a rationale for inclusion of each selected article. The purpose of an annotated bibliography is to document a list of references along with key information about each one. The detail about the reference is the annotation. Developing this annotated bibliography will create a foundation of knowledge about the selected topic. In your annotated bibliography:
Identify the purpose of the article.
Summarize the information.
Provide rationale for inclusion of each article.
Include the conclusions and findings of the article.
Write your annotated bibliography in a paragraph form. The annotated bibliography should be approximately 150 words (1–3 paragraphs) in length.

“Ethical Frameworks in Conflict: Exploring the Purpose and Impact of the Geneva Conventions”
The Geneva Conventions are an attempt at creating a separate, rules-based global ethical framework. In this discussion, you will explain the purpose of the Geneva Conventions and examine a part of the conventions that resonates with your personal ethics. Discussing the Geneva Conventions with your peers can help you learn more about how ethical frameworks aid in understanding human actions.
Discussing challenges that face our world often means investigating opinions and ideas different from your own. Remember to remain thoughtful and respectful toward your peers and instructor in your initial and response discussion posts.
Create one initial post and respond to at least two of your classmates.
For your initial post, address the following:
How would you explain the purpose of the Geneva Conventions to someone who has never heard of them?
Describe a part of the conventions that resonates with your personal ethics and build an argument for why this should apply to all people and nation-states.
For your response posts, address the following:
What do you think of your peer’s explanation of the Geneva Conventions?
Consider your peer’s argument and argue the opposite. Why should your peer’s chosen part of the conventions not apply to all people and nation-states?
50 words each reply

The Geneva Conventions, a series of international treaties, establish rules and protections to ensure humane treatment during wartime, particularly for those not directly involved in the conflict, such as civilians, wounded soldiers, and medical personnel. Their primary aim is to mitigate the horrors of war by setting ethical standards that all participating nations must adhere to, thereby safeguarding human dignity even amidst hostilities. The consequences of not adhering to these conventions are dire, leading to the erosion of trust between nations, the escalation of violence, and the disregard for human life and dignity.
A specific aspect of the Geneva Conventions that resonates deeply with me is the protection of medical personnel. This principle asserts that those providing medical care to the wounded and sick should be safeguarded from attack and allowed to perform their duties without interference. This aligns with my belief in the sanctity of life and the importance of humanitarian aid. Ensuring the safety and neutrality of medical workers not only saves lives but also upholds a fundamental aspect of human compassion and decency, which is crucial during the chaos of war. Imagine the potential if all nations universally adhere to this principle-a more humane and respectful approach to conflict, acknowledging the invaluable role of those who work to alleviate suffering and save lives.

If I had to describe the Geneva Conventions to someone unfamiliar with them, I’d say they are guidelines for nations involved in war for how to act ethically without causing unnecessary harm or death recklessly. Ultimately, they are there to protect only the most vulnerable and those who aren’t directly in the fight (like civilians, medical workers). The part of the Geneva Conventions that resonate with my personal values is the Fourth Convention, which aims to protect civilians even in occupied territory. Even in the military, you’d be hard pressed to find those who want war, but still they took an oath to defend their country willingly so they fully understand what they’re getting into and the risks involved. But, with an example like Ukraine, they did not ask to be invaded and want no part in armed conflict that’s been placed on them. It would be extremely depressing if civilians living peacefully in their homes could be brutally slaughtered because of political disputes, and unfortunately it still happens constantly, but there’s at least things in place to try to mitigate this, which is a good start. -
“Bridging the Gap: Addressing Mental Health Differences Between Generations” “Applying Sociology to Real-World Issues: A Research Paper on Social Change and Community Collaboration” “Researching and Citing Sources in APA Style: A Guide for University Students”
***Topic***
The subject I will be discussing is the differences in mental health across different generations. I will demonstrate how the younger generation have a greater understanding of mental health from a perspective standpoint compared to past generations. However, the crucial elements will be around how we may effectively connect and close this divide. Multiple individuals bear responsibility, however, our current focus should be on improving ourselves. The older generation faced significant social disapproval when seeking assistance, and those who did receive aid often had incorrect diagnoses. The majority of doctors were unaware of the underlying causes of mental health issues in that generation. However, another contributing factor was the promotion of newer medications to patients who lacked comprehension of their own condition. I will discuss the high rate of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among elderly veterans who have not received proper instruction on coping mechanisms for this condition. The absence of knowledge contributes to suicidal conduct and substance abuse. I will collect data to substantiate my claim that the older generation may require greater assistance in addressing mental health issues compared to the younger generation, primarily owing to their limited understanding.
***Assignment instructions***
You should also review any relevant materials assigned this term that you’re using for your final research paper. Reach out early in the week with any questions you have for your instructor about your final paper and consider going over a draft with a coach in the Writing Center.
In this course, you will research a topic that interests you or a subject you wish to learn more about. You will submit a topic in Week 3, and in Week 4, you’ll have an opportunity to interact with and receive feedback from your peers. Always reach out to your professor with any questions you may have.
References Page: An APA References list is required for your research paper. Always double-check with your professor about your sources if you’re uncertain about their legitimacy. For the most part, academic journal articles and scholarly books are appropriate and credible; however, periodicals like Time, USA Today, or Cosmopolitan may or may not be advisable. Remember to cite accordingly, including information from class lectures, television and radio programs, and other media sources. Please use the latest edition of the APA Style Guide (American Psychological Association). Please use caution with information taken from sources more than five years old. Refer to the campus library for more details about sources and to the Writing Center for how to cite sources correctly in APA.
Please make use of the Writing Center’s Research Paper Project Management PlanLinks to an external site. resource in addition to reviewing these steps involved in writing a research paper:
Find a subject. Review the topics covered in class.
Do preliminary research on the subject. This is important because if a topic is too hard to research, you must consider it more.
Ask yourself why this research is essential to you. You may want to sit back after you’ve looked at your Topic and ask, “So what?” Consider why the issue or topic is crucial to narrow it down and decide if you want to pursue it.
Prepare a preliminary bibliography that you will revise and return to often. Note the most interesting reads so that you can use those readings for your Annotated Bibliography.
Take notes from appropriate sources (for some, it helps to use notecards).
Construct a brief draft describing your topic, thesis statement, and relevancy. This will act as a guide to the rest of the research and writing process.
Write a first draft.
Revise the draft.
Make sure there is a clear, strong introduction that maps out the problem/issue you are looking at and tells the reader your intentions for the remainder of the paper.
Have a firm conclusion, discussing options for further research.
Insert your in-text citations at the Revision stage.
Finalize your paper, ensuring you’ve incorporated any feedback from your peer(s) or writing coach.
A research paper receiving an “A” as a final grade will be free of mechanical errors. It is advisable to use GrammarlyLinks to an external site. before submitting your paper. It also helps to read documents aloud because you’ll likely hear things you didn’t notice during the reading and writing stages. You might also consider submitting your papers to the Writing Center’s Paper ReviewLinks to an external site., which can help with organization and idea development.
A reasonable conclusion restates the thesis while summarizing your main points. If the thesis and conclusion are consistent, not only with each other but also with the main points, you will have clearly and competently presented your research and arguments.
A note on interviewing people:
If you’d like to conduct personal interviews, that’s fine! This can enhance research and make it even more enjoyable. Should you choose to do this, you must do two things:
If you are interested in interviewing for their research, must let your instructors know, fill in an Informed Consent Form Download Informed Consent Form, and have your instructors sign off on the project.
Create interview questions and have them cleared and approved by your professor.
You must do both tasks to move forward with your interviews.
Your Doing Sociology Research Paper will reflect any significant changes you made in your work, paying heed to any instructor feedback provided and that you’ve received during the peer review.
In your paper,
Identify your chosen issue as one that enables you to engage in applied sociology.
Summarize your topic as a social problem that would be improved by social change theory and applied sociology.
Distinguish clearly the group that would be directly impacted by an applied sociological approach to the problem.
Build a plan to resolve the issue that includes collaborating with the impacted group or community.
Describe what you have learned in practicing applied sociology.

Written communication is an
essential tool for any professional. As with any skill, writing well is the
result of practice followed by feedback and the use of relevant and
appropriate sources. Therefore, the quality of writing is graded as part of
this assignment. It is easy for students to plagiarize – cut and paste right
into a text document. It has been note, “Many college papers are
published on the web and students can even become members of e-groups which,
for a small fee, promise to deliver ‘A+’ papers on every topic. Ways to cheat
are abundant on the Web.”

Consider the debate among historians about art restoration. For example, in 2016 the Louvre Museum made the decision to restore Leonardo da Vinci’s St. John the Baptist. This sparked a debate regarding the altering of the image and artist intent. In this discussion students should consider the positions of the historians and decide should the artwork undergo restoration. Be specific in your reasons as you detail what the restoration would imply (the removal of glazing or varnish) and how it might impact (or if it will not) the artist work. Compare and contrast the results from the Da Vinci restoration.
Did the restoration alter the artist’s work?
How did the removal of the varnish change the work?
Or was the varnish altering the artist’s work? How so?
Does it change the way we experience the work? Or the content/meaning of the work?
