“Analyzing Wildlife Value Orientations: Understanding Personal Beliefs and Their Impact on Natural Resource Management” “Understanding Value Orientations in Wildlife Conservation: Insights from the Guanaco Study and the Western U.S. Survey”
What you’re doing
For this assignment, you will be completing a survey, and then conducting a basic analysis and interpretation based on your results. If you have not already completed the survey, please do so now before reading further. The survey is here.
Instructions
Now that you have completed the survey, follow the directions below:
The survey you took is the first section of a larger survey that was commissioned by the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (WAFWA) in 2004, in order to establish the factors that influence the presence of a defined set of wildlife value orientations in the western United States. This study is available online as Teel et al (2005).
The purpose of this assignment is to:
Have you assess your wildlife value orientation and belief dimensions using the Teel et al (2005) instrument, and
Gain some insight into the use of survey instruments to characterize values and beliefs, and
Identify ways in which knowledge of values and beliefs could benefit the natural resource manager.
Procedure
Once you have completed the survey, use the following directions to summarize your responses.
1) Average your indicated numerical value for your responses (e.g., 1=strongly disagree and 7=strongly agree) for the following groups of questions:
1a. #1, 4, 9, 10, 12, and 13. This value is your utilitarian belief dimension score.
1b. #2, 5, 6, and 7. This value is your mutualism belief dimension score.
1c. #18, 22, 24, 25, and 28. This value is your caring belief dimension score.
1d. #11, 14, 16, and 19. This value is your safety belief dimension score.
1e. #26, 29, and 31. This value is your environmental belief dimension score.
2) Reverse the scores for questions #15, 17, 20, and 27. For example if your score was 5, it becomes a 3, a 7 becomes a 1, and a 6 becomes a 2. Once you have reversed the scores for these 4 questions, average the values for the following groups:
2a. #17 and 20. This value is your attraction belief dimension score.
2b. #3, 15, 23, and 27. This value is your hunting belief dimension score.
3) Average your mutualism belief score (1b above) and your caring belief score (1c), this is your Mutualism value orientation score.
4) Average your utilitarian belief score (1a) and your hunting belief dimension score (2b), this is your Utilitarian value orientation score.
5) Utilize the following table to establish your value orientation type (in bold):
Utilitarian Value Orientation Score
4.5
Mutualism Value
Orientation Score
4.5
Mutualist
Pluralist
6) Sum the rankings for the 1st and 3rd statements in each of the 3 groups on the first page of the survey (so you are summing 6 values). This is your materialist ranking.
7) Sum the rankings for the 2nd and 4th statements in each of the 3 groups (again, 6 values total). This is your post-materialist ranking.
8) Subtract your post-materialist ranking (#7) from your materialist ranking (#6), this is your Materialist/Post-Materialist Index. If it is positive, you have a post-materialist value set, if it is negative, a materialist value set. If it is 0, you have a mixed values set.
Questions
Provide the results of your analysis of the survey you took. These results should indicate the values that are used to determine the following:
Your dominant belief dimension (out of the utilitarian, hunting, mutualist, and caring dimensions),
Your utilitarian and mutualism orientation scores (whichever is highest is your value orientation),
Your value orientation type (Distanced, Utilitarian, Mutualist, Pluralist),
Your Attraction, Safety, and Environmentalism belief dimension scores,
Your Materialist/post-materialist score
Reflect on your categorization – with a focus on your wildlife value orientation type (Distanced, Utilitarian, Mutualist, Pluralist). How might knowledge of your own orientation influence your interactions with others who possess a different value orientation? What predispositions does your orientation have that might conflict with those of other value orientations? Inform your statements with support from the Petitpas and Bonacic (2019) paper on the Guanaco as well as the described results of the use of this survey found in Manfredo et al (2009)

“The Complexities of Repealing and Replacing the Affordable Care Act: Balancing Political Calculations and Public Opinion” Understanding Voter Opinions on Healthcare Policy
*** CREATE A RESPONSE TO THE FOLLOWING DISCUSSION POST**
The repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has been a highly debated topic in American politics, closely linked to the reelection strategies of lawmakers. As elected representatives, legislators are acutely conscious of the need to strike a balance between their policy choices and the preferences of their voters, especially when it comes to healthcare, which directly impacts people’s physical and financial well (The White House, 2023). The cost-benefit analysis for legislators about the initiatives to repeal/replace the ACA is complex and has multiple aspects. On the other hand, there were electoral pledges to repeal the ACA, frequently justified by the aim of diminishing government involvement in healthcare and decreasing insurance premiums. By fulfilling these pledges, a lawmaker has the potential to enhance their support within their base, hence increasing their likelihood of being reelected. Nevertheless, the popularity of the ACA grew over time, especially as the public became more aware of its advantages (The White House, 2023). The legislators faced a potential danger in their bid for reelection due to the widespread support for the ACA. Backing the repeal or replacement of the ACA may isolate constituents who depend on the ACA for healthcare services, financial aid, and safeguards like coverage for pre-existing diseases.
Lawmakers encountered a predicament, revoking the ACA could have satisfied some of their supporters and conformed to certain ideological stances, it posed the possibility of receiving unfavorable reactions from others who were advantaged by the law’s provisions. Furthermore, the intricacies of healthcare policy posed difficulties in accurately forecasting the complete ramifications of repeal/replace initiatives, such as possible disruptions in coverage and heightened expenses for specific demographics (Willison & Singer, 2019). The political calculation, therefore, entailed assessing the possible immediate benefits of implementing campaign pledges compared to the long-term electoral hazards and the concrete effects on constituents’ lives. When making recommendations or establishing national laws that affect programs such as Medicare or Medicaid, examining voters’ perspectives regarding healthcare policy is essential for legislative leaders (Willison & Singer, 2019). Public opinion acts as a gauge of the goals and concerns of people, determining the policy agenda and impacting the decisions made by legislative leaders. When it comes to healthcare, which is highly personal and has a direct impact on people’s lives, it is crucial to comprehend voter emotion.
Legislative leaders must consider multiple aspects when evaluating public opinion on healthcare issues. Demographic shifts, such as the growing dependence of the aging population on Medicare, underscore the significance of upholding and enhancing healthcare services for seniors (Willison & Singer, 2019). Furthermore, the Medicaid program’s responsibility to offer coverage to low-income individuals and families highlights the importance of policies that guarantee affordable healthcare for vulnerable people. The general population’s perception regarding healthcare is not fixed; it changes throughout time in reaction to socio-economic influences, personal encounters with healthcare, and political discussions. Survey results, public forums, input from constituents, and healthcare advocacy organizations offer valuable perspectives on voters’ opinions regarding specific policy measures (Impacts of the ACA and Implications for Its Repeal, 2017). Legislative leaders must actively interact with these sources of information in order to effectively assess public sentiment and adjust their policy suggestions accordingly. Legislative leaders must skillfully manage conflicting interests and ideological differences among their constituents (Impacts of the ACA and Implications for Its Repeal, 2017). Healthcare policy arguments frequently mirror more extensive ideological debates concerning the government’s role, individual accountability, and social welfare. Therefore, comprehending the intricacies of voter opinions necessitates being attuned to many viewpoints and being open to identifying shared interests wherever feasible.
The evaluation of lawmakers’ costs and benefits in relation to the repeal or replacement of the ACA highlighted the challenges of reconciling policy goals with electoral factors. Voters’ opinions about healthcare policy are crucial in influencing legislative choices, requiring thorough consideration of public mood and constituents’ varied requirements. Legislative leaders can accomplish their primary duty of serving the interests of the voters and advancing significant healthcare reforms by aligning policy suggestions with voter preferences and addressing their healthcare problems.

INT 220 Module Three Assignment Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
There are many factors that should be examined when considering a new international market. In this assignment, you will explore how a company can qualify or quantify economic factors of markets and how it can influence the process of selecting a new market for a product. As you complete this assignment, consider how the lessons learned and resources used can be applied to your course project.
Prompt
You are an international trade consultant ranking the overall quality of various international markets for a product of your choosing. Select a product you would be interested in introducing to a new market, then complete the Module Three Assignment Template (located in the Guidelines for Submission section of this document). Then rank your recommendations for a new market and justify your rankings using key economic and political data points. Examples of products include digital cameras, activity trackers, curtains, coffeemakers, and so forth.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
Application of Data: Describe your initial thoughts on how insights from the required data to be collected could help to inform business decisions. For example, consider what information each data point provides, whether you think some data points should be weighted more or less heavily than others in making a business decision, what ideal data points might look like for expansion into a new market for your product, the ways that different political systems may impact a decision, and so forth.
Political and Economic Data Collection: Complete the table in the provided template by finding the appropriate information and data points for each identified category using course and external resources.
Ranking and Rationale: Rank the appropriateness of introducing your selected product into the three markets from “most appropriate” to “least appropriate” using the gathered political and economic data you collected, then provide a rationale for why you ranked the markets the way you did on the basis of the data you gathered. -
“Assessment of Personal Diet and Lifestyle: Three Day Food Record and Dietary Analysis” Title: Creating a Healthier Lifestyle: A Three Day Meal Plan and Goal Setting
Hello my name is Teresa Alli. It is important to know that i AM 23 years old, my weight is 115lb, I am 5’5 and my BMI is 18.89. I eat a mix of healthy and junk food. Not so much junk food just as snacks example, candy, chocolate, chips.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR KEEPING YOUR THREE DAY FOOD RECORD
1. Record EVERYTHING you eat and drink for three days including 2 weekdays (or
workdays) and 1 weekend (or non-work day).
2. For accuracy, it is best to record each meal or snack immediately after it is eaten.
3. Be sure to include water, coffee, tea, soda, etc.
4. If additional space is required for the same day, continue onto the back of the pagenoting the continuation.
5. Record BRAND NAMES, if known.
6. When eating out, record foods as accurately as possible including the NAME OF THE
ESTABLISHMENT and the SPECIFIC FOOD ITEM ORDERED.
7. Always specify PREPARATION METHODS. For example, baked, broiled, fried,
breaded, sautéed, etc.
8. Record EXACT AMOUNTS. Specify weight, volume, or dimension in inches. For
example, 1 piece banana bread (1. x 2. x 4.). Use household measuring cups
and spoons to estimate portions.
9. Describe all foods as fully as possible. For example, 3oz baked chicken thigh
(no skin). (NOTE: 3oz is approximately the size of a deck of cards.)
10. List ALL INGREDIENTS for sandwiches, casseroles, and other mixed dishes. For
example, peanut butter sandwich: 2 pieces oat bran bread, 1½ tbsp
chunky peanut butter. Full recipes are not required.
11. Include ALL ADDITIONS to food at the table such as salt, sugar, or milk. Record each
addition on a separate line including the amount.
12. Record any DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS (i.e. vitamins, etc.) including brand names and
amounts.
INCLUDE ***Three Day Dietary Record- (you can choose from any online nutrition analysis program (eg. My Fitness Pal )***
PERSONAL HEALTH SURVEY – you will need to calculate your calorie and protein needs using the following formula: (there are a variety of formulas, if you are using something different, include it in your project)
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics published a comparison of the various equations used to calculate BEE. Mifflin-St Jeor formula was found to be the most accurate
Men:
10 x weight (kg) +6.25 x height (cm) -5 x age + 5
Women:
10 x weight (kg) +6.25 x height (cm) – 5 x age -161
PROTEIN REQUIREMENTS:
The RDA for protein is 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight (Weight divided by 2.2 = wt in kg)
150 divided by 2.2 = 68 68 X0.8 = 54.4 grams of protein
People who weight train may require 1.0 – 1.5 grams of protein per kg. However, eating extra protein does not guarantee muscle gain without strength training. If you take in too many calories from any source it will get stored as fat!
THREE DAY DIETARY RECORD:
Keep a record of everything you eat for three days. Be sure to include portion size, condiments, spreads, sauces, salad dressings, method of preparation (grill, fry) drinks, and snacks. Include the time of day, time you spent eating, mood, where you were, and who you were with (family, friends, self, etc.) This will help you identify problems or set goals for your summary. Print out All Daily Reports.
DIETARY ASSESSMENT:
You will need to average out the three days for CALORIES, FAT, CARBOHYDRATES, DIETARY FIBER, PROTEIN, SODIUM, AND CALCIUM. Then, using your three day record, compare your intake to the 2020 Dietary Guidelines and MY Plate recommendations. State each guideline or recommendation and write your assessment of your intake next to it. (See the example below)
DIETARY GUIDELINE #3 – Engage in regular physical activity….During the three days I kept a record, I exercised two out of the three days for at least 30 minutes.
You must use at least 10 of the guidelines or recommendations
SUMMARY AND GOALS:
For this section look over your assessment and draw some conclusions about your diet and lifestyle. Are you missing servings of fruits and vegetables every day? What are your health risk factors (ie, do you smoke?), Do you exercise? What are the risk factors associated with continuing to eat this way? What are the good things about your diet? INCLUDE AT LEAST TWO MEASURABLE GOALS FOR YOURSELF REGARDING ANY CHANGES YOU NEED TO MAKE TO EITHER YOUR DIET, LIFESTYLE, EXERCISE. (ie, To eat at least 2 fruits per day, making one citrus)
It must be comprehensive and complete.
THREE DAY PLAN:
Finally, write out a NEW three day healthy meal plan incorporating your new goals. Include 3 full days (meals, snacks, activities). You may use the guidelines and recommendations as well as your own findings and translate them into meals for three days. -
