  • Response to Peer’s Post on Dialectical Behavior Therapy

You will reply to two original posts of your peers with at least 150 words and include one reference. 1st response to original peer post.  2nd response to original peer post.  You may reply to peers who reply to you however, there are no points for these response posts.
    Please respond to this:
Anchored on dialectical philosophy, dialectical behavior therapy is a structured outpatient treatment developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan for the treatment of borderline personality disorder.  Consisting of four treatment modes ideally delivered over a year, this treatment employs social learning theory and principles of cognitive behavioral therapy (Flynn et al., 2021; Yan et al., 2022). The development of this treatment initially stemmed from Linehan’s desire to figure out a treatment for suicidal people. She said in the video that early on in her career, nobody believed in borderline personality disorder and most people who were under the earlier version of her therapy thought they had borderline personality disorder and all looked like they met the criteria (UW Video, 2017). Upon finding that there was no theory available of the disorder, Linehan developed her own theory and readjusted the framework of her therapy so as to, in her words, move along with the patient and get radical acceptance of themselves all the while still providing the standard of care (UW Video, 2017).
Also, according to Linehan, while initially DBT was designed to only treat people with borderline personality disorder, because it’s effective in improving mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation skills and interpersonal skills, this therapy is also now used for treating a wide range of mental health conditions (UW Video, 2017; Tan et al., 2022). Despite many criticisms, many studies support the aforementioned statement, showing that different groups of people, regardless of age, gender and race, can be under this therapy.
For example, in a recent study on patients with substance use disorder diagnosed with BPD, it was found that DBT is empirically effective even if the program was only done for 28 days, displaying results such as reduction of general dysfunction and decrease blaming (Buono et al., 2021). Meanwhile, in another recent study, for a relatively short period of observation, adolescents with manic depressive symptoms in an acute care intensive unit showed significantly better improvement than those patients who were under treatment as usual (TAU). Furthermore, the former’s scores on different depression measures that determine the severity of their symptoms were significantly lower upon discharge (Saito et al., 2020).

  • Critical Reflection on Children’s Play and Adult Intervention In the video “Breaking to Build – Boys and Blocks,” two young boys are seen playing with blocks in a classroom setting. As they build and knock down structures, an adult observer intervenes with

    Module 06 Content
    Background
When children play, adults often try to control or take over certain types of interaction without realizing it. They can sometimes put their own fears and issues onto the kids. They say things like, “It’s not safe,” “That’s not nice,” “Here’s what you’re going to do,” or “I would feel such-and-such a way, so you can’t do this,” (breaking up a friend’s Lego creation, for example). These experiences are not the adults’ experiences to have. They are the experiences of the children. Children need to practice these types of skills and some adults unintentionally rob children of these learning benefits.
    Directions
Watch the following video and then write a 2-page critical thinking reflection.
Video: Breaking to Build – Boys and Blocks (Time 6:00) https://streaming.videatives.com/playlists/share/555def0cc1f53384371acfdca7ae0c5c
Address the following in your reflection:
Identify four ways the boys interact with each other. What means of communication and interaction do they use? Explain and include examples from the video.
What executive functioning skills are being practiced/developed throughout the video? Describe five skills and include examples from the video.
Describe how you felt when the boys knocked down the block structure near the window? Why do you think you felt that way? Explain.
Describe what would not have been learned or experienced if the adult had taken over. Explain.
    Make sure to include:
Include APA citations to all sources used for this assignment, and include a reference page, if necessary. Cited sources should be relevant, credible, and appropriate.
All work should be formatted professionally and use correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

  • The Impact of Nutrition on Child Cognition and Intellectual Performance

I have posted some notes I had on what this paper should discuss. Its probably not enough for 6     pages so feel free to add anything else you think would help. I also included some links to articles  that might be useful. They arent required to be used but if you use others I will need them.
Nutrition is seemingly one of the most important aspects of a child’s growth and development. From the time a child is born, their growth is measured in percentiles and their development is measured in milestones. With that said, can adequate nutrition be a driving force of advanced cognition and increased intellectual performance?
    Adequate nutrition itself is what
Malnourishment is often linked to slower motor development, language development, and later leading to poor school performance.
Interruptions in the body’s metabolic state can also lead to neurodegeneration.
This is why children with inadequate nutrition are at a high risk for intellectual deficits.
Also write on how nutrition positively affects cognition

  • “Exploring the Key Role of Data Analysis in Nursing Studies: Understanding Descriptive, Inferential, and Qualitative Analysis for Discovering Credible Findings” “Exploring Lived Experiences: A Qualitative Analysis of Lysis in Nursing Practice”

Data analysis is key for discovering credible findings from implementing nursing studies. Discussion and conclusions can be made about the meaning of the findings from the data analysis.
Share what you learned about descriptive analysis (statistics), inferential analysis (statistics), and qualitative analysis of data; include something that you learned that was interesting to you and your thoughts on why data analysis is necessary for discovering credible findings for nursing.
Compare clinical significance and statistical significance; include which one is more meaningful to you when considering application of findings to nursing practice.
    Descriptive Analysis (Statistics)
Nurses need to understand basic scientific procedures and research activities (QSEN, 2020). Some of this information you should recognize from completing your pre-requisites of math/statistics before taking this course. The purpose of descriptive statistics is to describe; one useful goal descriptive statistics is used is to quickly understand the characteristics of the sample (participants/subjects/people) in the study. Researchers can categorize descriptive data analysis many differing ways (Houser, 2018; Nieswiadomy & Bailey, 2018; Schmidt & Brown, 2019):
Descriptive analysis of data is helpful in determining the characteristics of subjects and variables (Houser, 2018). Being able to competently read descriptive analysis will prove to be a valuable skill when considering if the results can be applicable to a particular practice setting.

    Quantitative Analysis (Inferential Statistics)
The purpose is to determine the strength and the applicability of findings to the general population (Houser, 2018; Polit & Beck, 2018). The calculation processes and procedures are organized, systematic, and mathematical. “Inferential statistical tests are based on the assumption that chance or sampling error/random errors is the only explanation; however, researchers want to establish that chance/error is not the reason” (Nieswiadomy & Bailey, 2018, p. 250). For nursing studies, incorporating this type of statistical testing is important in rendering strong, sound, reliable results.
Inferential statistics yields robust, scientific findings. By using inferential stats, results can be determined to be statistically and/or clinically significant (Houser, 2018). Read Houser chapter 13 for more information.
Being able to competently read inferential analysis will prove to be a valuable skill when reading research studies and trying to determine if the findings are significant and applicable to practice.
    Qualitative Analysis (Results)
Evidence-based practice emphasizes equality within all areas of scientific methodology, clinical experience, and patient preferences; therefore, one does not trump the other in terms of significance. Qualitative studies are valuable to nursing practice as these studies are designed to provide insight towards the latter two, both clinical experience and patient preferences.
When reading research studies that describes the meaning of an experience, the methods or procedures should be clearly described; yet may seem to unfold during the description. “Some qualitative research may or may not report the type/category of qualitative design used in the study; therefore, the study may be labeled qualitative or content analysis” (Houser, 2018, p. 411); some research articles may be labeled by the classification of qualitative design such as ethnography, grounded theory, phenomenology, or case research. All qualitative studies should outline some of the following methods (Houser, 2018; Polit & Beck):
    Sampling procedures
    Inclusion criteria
    Data collection techniques
    Overview of the analysis
Data analysis (should begin with data collection)
    Interpreting data collected

main themes and sub-themes should be reported
    interpretation of themes
    conclusions are based on themes
overall implications for nursing practice is described in terms of understanding the lived experience
Includes efforts to establish/enhance qualitative validity:
    Trustworthiness
    Credibility
    Dependability
    Confirmability
    Bracketing

    Prolonged engagement
    External checks
    Inter-rater and inter-coder reliability
    Inquiry audit/Audit trail
    Decision trail

Even though qualitative studies may be challenging due to the use of unfolding techniques and the large amounts of word data, findings are valuable in helping to understand and determine the patient or informant’s perceptions, feelings, and experiences. These types of studies are just as valuable as quantitative studies in helping to establish an evidence-based nursing practice.
