This is a Three part project: Please read all instructions for each part.
PART 1:
In the Week 1 and Week 2 Lessons, we have read about two steps of the BIG6 model: task definition and information seeking strategies (CO1 & 2). As you consider the Week 7 Final Project, you will complete a project plan to help you focus your energies and generate ideas to help you be successful academically. To complete the Week 3 Assignment: Project Plan, you have to complete Parts I and II.
Part I:
After you understand what is required in Week 7, write one or two sentences per bullet point (there are additional questions and points to help you flesh our your ideas):
Topic:
Choose a topic that is realistic and one that you want to learn more about.
The topic might be a career field you want to go into or something else that deeply interests you.
Scope and value:
What is the scope of the topic and your research?
What value does it bring to your life? To your professional life?
Communication medium:
How are you going to communicate your project?
How will you make your presentation different and unique?
Critical thinking questions:
Pose different questions that will help you with your research and investigate your topic in more depth.
Post critical questions that will push you to improve.
Subtopics (optional).
Brainstorming (optional).
Part II is a reflective paragraph that represents your critical thinking process when thinking about possible sources and your research. You are NOT looking for specific sources now. Consider the best possible sources as presented in the week 2 Lesson. What type of sources will work best for your research? How can you support your project plan with credible, current, reliable, accurate, and relevant information?
Once you complete Parts I and II, please submit the WORD document.
PART 2:
During the Week 3 Assignment, Project Plan, you chose a topic and created your project plan. In the Week 3 Lesson, you read about location and access and in Week 4, you learned about organizing your digital information and storing that information responsibly. Now it is time to take the work you did in the Week 3 Assignment, Project Plan, and locate and evaluate sources (CO2 & 5) that that will lead to your Week Week 7 Assignment, Final Project.
Please follow these instructions:
Download the Source Evaluation Worksheet template (in Word).
Complete Parts I and II in the worksheet.
Find a minimum of three (3) sources. One (1) source must be an academic source and from the APUS Trefrey Library and the other sources must be credible and appropriate for college research.
Please include robust source summaries in your own words that explain the contents of the source and the relevance of the source to your topic.(The sheet is attached below)
Part 3: Powerpoint
Goal: Demonstrate the ability to create a final project that uses both research-based and personal content while using presentation software to communicate with an intended audience.
Description:
During the first six-weeks you formulated a project plan, researched the content of the plan, and collected quality academic and non-academic sources. For the week 7 Final Project you will create a presentation (CO8) that builds upon the Week 3 Project Plan and the Week 5 Location and Access (Source Organization worksheet) that effectively communicates the knowledge you have gained during COMM120.
Please consider the following:
Presentation will include an introduction, body, conclusion, and properly formatted reference/work cited slide in the citation style of your degree program (APA, MLA, or Chicago).
Clear evidence that the topic was researched and expanded upon the week 2 Project Plan (CO2 & 5).
Presentation provides audience with information to increase their knowledge of the topic presented (CO1).
Presentation engages the audience by using elements such as images, graphs, and charts. Appropriate citations must be included.
Three (3) vetted credible sources. One (1) of the sources must be scholarly and from the library.
Appropriate length 7-9 slides.
If you have multimedia skills and want to add creative content to your presentation, please do! Try to add any of the following enhancements and as you do, think about how it will impact your presentation and improve communication with the intended audience.
Voice narration, closed captioning, script.
Appropriate background music (must be cited on reference page).

you have any trouble finding the information I am asking for in your
company’s annual report, please feel free to reach out for help! It can
be overwhelming sometimes going through those documents and I am here to

“Social Media and Teen Mental Health: A Summary and Response”
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/03/21/teens-social-media-mental-health/ – link to article I am using
AN INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH
Your essay should include a full introductory paragraph. As explained in the slideshow Writing an Effective Introduction (in Module 2), an effective introductory paragraph should…
Evoke readers’ interest (making the closed research theme reading and your response to it relevant and provocative to your readers).
Describe the topic (using a “They Say” move to identify the reading’s title, author, purpose, and other rhetorical features of the text, as needed).
Present a thesis statement (briefly communicating your “I Say” in response to the closed research theme reading, possibly using a template for responding found in Chapter 4 of They Say / I Say).
A SUMMARY OF THE CLOSED RESEARCH THEME READING
Your essay should fully summarize the closed research theme reading you chose, beginning by communicating the overall main idea of the reading and highlighting key points and details that are especially relevant to understanding the author’s message and your response to it.
In general, an effective summary will…
Begin with a “They Say” move to communicate the overall main idea of the reading, possibly using a template for summarizing in found Chapter 2 of “They Say / I Say”.
Regularly use “They Say” moves and signal verbs (see Chapters 1-3 of “They Say / I Say”) to summarize and sometimes quote key ideas and information from the reading.
Be objective and fair to the ideas and views of the author.
Be primarily written in 3rd person point of view.
Avoid including your own opinions.
Be limited to less than a page double-spaced.
CITATION AND DOCUMENTATION
Your drafts should be formatted and documented based on MLA style. Use in-text citations to cite “They Say” summaries and quotations from the closed research theme reading, as well as summaries or quotations from any other outside sources you use, if you use any. Lastly, provide a list of sources, based on your citation style. Your list of sources will definitely list ONE source–the closed research theme reading you chose. Other sources are not expected or required, but if you use any additional sources, you should list those as well.
Half Draft (due in Module 2)
An introductory paragraph that attempts to gain the interest of readers and introduces your closed research theme reading
A full and accurate summary of the closed research theme reading
In-text citations of “They Say” summaries and quotations of the closed research theme reading and other sources, if you use any
MLA style formatting, with a Works Cited page
Observation of the conventions of Standard Written English
350-450 words (no more, no less) for the half draft (References or Works Cited list does not count in the minimum word-count requirement)
See the assessment rubric on the assignment page “M02 Writing Project 1 Summary and Response: Half Draft” for an understanding of how the Half Draft will be graded

“Hegemonic Masculinity in Tsai Ming-Liang’s Film: Analyzing Power, Desire, and Gender Roles”
1. Define hegemonic masculinity as it relates to this film. 2. Your claim should claim something. What is this new way of thinking? 3. Use an analytical description to demonstrate that he is the agent of power in this sequence. Don’t rely on the reader to look at the time stamp and see what you see. It’s up to you to prove the point. Also, Mike is not so much expressing sexual desire as enacting desire. He’s playing a role on stage. 4. This isn’t really an argument but a simple description. Rather than engage superficially with several peer-reviewed texts, engage substantively with two. 5. What is Tsai’s argument? 6. These are all generalizations without support. 7. What is Waling’s argument? 8. This is all so generic it could describe any film. You need analytical descriptions to demonstrate what you see at work in this film. 9. I’m not sure what you mean here. 10. What are Ettari and Burt’s arguments? 11. What is Messerschmidt’s argument? 12. Use the they say/I say approach that we covered in class. 13. What is Tasker’s argument? 14. Follow the style guide I distributed. It is available in canvas. 15. What is Dyer’s argument? Needs an argument that is supported by analytical descriptions of specific sequences. Needs to substantively engage with two peer-reviewed articles, using the they say/I say technique we covered in class. Often unclear what you are saying.
