  • Title: “Sad Academy: The Rising Orlando-based Artist Making Waves in the Music Scene”

You are to write a 150-word bio for an artist based in Orlando without a recording contract. Use professional language and make it clear and concise. Though you will be tempted to simply put down the facts in some ordered and organized way, a good biographer makes the story compelling and easy to read. A bio for a press kit needs to be short, usually just a page of narrative with an additional page for lists (see below). The entire document should be written in ‘third person.
THE ARTIST/BAND THAT YOU WILL BE WRITING ABOUT IS SAD ACADEMY BASED IN ORLANDO. THEY HAVE A WEBSITE WITH INFORMATION AS WELL. . In it provide at least one sentence on
Name, and what genre they would be classed in. Avoid “they are so unique they don’t have a description” or similar.
State that they are based in Orlando.
Cities where the artist has played, or if only based in Orlando, name of venues.
How the artist got started, or if a solo artist, when they started playing professionally.
How the artist got their name/stage name, or if they are using their given name if a solo artist.
Why the artist is unique. Avoid “they sing songs from their heart,” or “they are dedicated to their craft.” Every good artist does that.
If the artist is multi member, recognize each and their personal experience.
If the artist had a member who was part of a band before that had some success.
Notable releases, if available, and their streaming platforms.
    The artist’s history.
Before writing the bio, research is done on the artist’s background, accomplishments, goals, and interests to find interesting and unique features that will set the artist apart from others. Keep in mind the target readership of the bio. The bio should be succinct and interesting to read and create an introduction that clearly defines the artist and the genre or style of music. The hardest decision for the biographer may be deciding what to leave out. Give yourself time to write and rewrite the bio several times until you get the story just the way it needs to be.
The assignment for most people should be 150 words, on a word document or a pdf, using Times font at 12 point size. You will get full credit for a compelling biography of your artist throughout that is free of grammatical errors. As thus, it is suggested that you have multiple people read it before you submit it.
Also, please double space, justify your text, and indent your paragraphs.

Jonah is a 35-year-old cis gender, gay man who lives with
his partner, Stephen, in Ottawa, Canada. Jonah and Stephen met at their place
of employment, the National Gallery of Canada. Jonah is a curator, while
Stephen is an archivist. Both have advanced degrees and enjoy dinners out and
going to cultural events. Both Jonah and Stephen enjoy art and have their own
studio in which Jonah paints and Stephen designs sculptures. They have both had
showings in smaller galleries around town and have had some success in selling
their work. They are considering making this their full-time work but are
hesitant to give up the steady paychecks the museum provides.  Jonah comes from a large family and is close
to his three female siblings and his mother. He came out to his family when he
was 15 and they have been supportive and open to his relationships. He laughs
and says, “they love Stephen, probably more than they love me!” His father died
12 months ago from a heart attack and the family went through much turmoil
during that time. Jonah was close to his father, and while his father always
struggled with his weight and his heart, the attack and death came as a shock
to the family. Since his father’s death, Jonah has been experiencing a lot of
worry – he worries his sister’s will get sick or his mother will fall and no
one will be there to help her, now that she is on her own. He worries that
Stephen will get in an accident on the way to the museum and is often found
checking the traffic report numerous times a day when he knows Stephen may be
traveling. He worries one of them will be fired and not be able to afford their
apartment and will have to get rid of the studio. He admits none of these
worries are founded on fact and Stephen often tells him he is being silly.  Jonah tells you that he feels agitated a lot
and “on edge.” Jonah tells you this is pretty unusual for him; he has always
been focused, but this new heightened awareness makes him feel out of control
and often tires him out to where he finds he cannot muster up the strength to
go out to dinner or walk the dog as he feels too exhausted. He also notes there
is “so much danger out there” and it is sometimes easier to stay home. At work,
he says that he often “blanks out” and is becoming irritable with others on staff,
which is unlike him. He has increased his weekly massages to twice a week,
hoping that will help with the muscle tension he now feels all the time, but it
is not helping.  Jonah tells you that he
enjoys drinking socially, but is not concerned about his intake. He smokes pot
on occasion. He finds that neither of these things help with this feeling of
doom and has stopped both practices, finding sleep his only comfort but even
this alludes him at times. He used to sleep quite well, but now finds he wakes
up two or three times a night. Jonah notes he has always been a bit of a
worrier, but finds that the level of worry he has now feels debilitating and it
is causing some issues in his relationship and at work. Stephen is becoming
frustrated with his “needless worry about stuff that is never going to happen”
and they often get in disagreements now about staying in or going out. Jonah
agrees it is ridiculous, but he can’t help but think that something bad is
going to happen. Jonah is seeking help to figure out what this is all about so
he “can get on with living his life.”

  • “Advocating for Cultural Competence in Healthcare: A Proposal for Improved Health Outcomes in The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down”

The United States is becoming more racially, culturally, ethnically and culturally diverse. This growth in diversity is not occurring as quickly in our population of health care professionals, and the lack of parallel growth often results in the provision of culturally inconsistent care. Because of this lack of consistent culturally competent care, nurses and other health care providers need education to negotiate across cultural divides that may occur during our interactions with a patient whose cultural background is different from our own.
To aid in our understanding of the importance of cultural diversity, your synthesis assignment is to read The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman.  Ms. Fadiman through her book weaves this personal tragedy, a probing medical investigation, and a fascinating look at the Hmong history and culture into an extraordinarily insightful piece of literature.
After reading this book you will develop a 4-5 page report (not including your title page and reference page) on your thoughts and impressions. See instructions below.
Based on your reading of the book, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman, you will play the role of an advocate and write an extended appeal (maximum five pages, double-spaced) for a way to resolve the bridge between the two cultures and ethnomedical systems, and to find some approach that will result in better health outcomes. You have two choices: Write the appeal as an advocate for the Hmong community, or as an advocate for the hospital that treated Lia (the Hmong child). In either case, your appeal must include the following components (total – 50 points):
Description of both ethnomedical systems (25points): For either option, your appeal must incorporate a description of the ethnomedical system of the party for whom you are an advocate, as well as for the other party.
A proposed approach to improve health outcomes (25 points): Assuming that both sides want better health outcomes, propose an approach or program to achieve that goal from your specific advocacy perspective.
If you do have any citations in the text (which you should for any assertions of fact or opinions that are not yours), make sure you include references at the end of the paper. Format the citations and references in APA style.

Discussion Post 1 to respond to: (writers name: Jason Trucks)
“Market-oriented environmental tools are policies that create incentives for firms to reduce their pollution output.  There are three main categories for these tools: pollution charge, marketable permit program and property rights. Every firm has a different situation, some firms may find the marginal cost of using one of the tools listed above more profitable than using another tool. For instance, here in Texas they have Tax Code Section 11.31 Pollution Control Property. This code states that if you can prove your facility has a method for the reduction or methods of control of air, water or land pollution then the firm may be entitled to a tax exemption. This is an example of the market-oriented environmental tool pollution charge which gives a profit-maximizing firm the motivation to reduce pollution emissions. The state of Texas also uses permit program, but it appears that program has been unsuccessful. An organization named Grist reported that companies in Texas have released some 1.1 billion pounds of air, water or land pollution OVER their permit limits since 2002 that is the equivalent of companies going over their permits by fifty-five million pounds a year. With that being the case, I believe Texas needs to work on their market oriented environmental tools to give companies the incentives to do better in the environmental area.

Discussion post 2: (writers name: Kamonte Westbrook)
“Market-oriented environmental tools have a significant impact on firm’s decisions. The three main tools of market-oriented policies are pollution charges, marketable permits, and better-defined property rights (“Khan”, n.d.). The advantage of these tools are they can achieve any desired reduction at a lower cost of society compared to command-and-control regulation. First, a pollution charge is a tax imposed on the quantity of pollution that a firm emits; also known as pollution tax (“Lrnr”, n.d.). The purpose of this charge is to give a profit-maximizing firm an incentive to figure out ways to reduce emissions. A number of environmental policies are actually pollution charges. For example, the government and many state governments impose taxes on gasoline (Lynham, n.d.). Next, are marketable permits which is a program in which a city or state government issues permits allowing only a certain quantity of pollution (“Khan”, n.d.). The purpose marketable permits serve are to basically allow flexibility in pollution reduction efforts for firms. Lastly, the better-defined property rights which is defined as the legal rights of ownership on which others are not allowed to infringe without paying compensation (Lynham, n.d.). The policy of this tool is to serve as an effective environmental protection tool. All-in-all, these tools work together to achieve the same goal of desired reduction of pollution which therefore contributes to overall environmental quality.

Middle adulthood brings with it the very real possibility of major life transitions. Unfortunately, not all these life transitions will be positive. The middle-aged adult, if a parent, will be faced with the departure of the grown children and the possibility of becoming a grandparent. In addition, individuals in middle adulthood may face the realization that their parent(s) may need to be cared for, and the possibility of retirement. Each of these transitions could have a profound effect on the individual. The fact that many of these may begin occurring at relatively the same time can only compound their effects.
On the other hand, individuals in middle adulthood probably have better resources for dealing with these transitions than they would have had before. The fact that such transitions will be faced, therefore, does not guarantee the effects will be negative. In your initial post of 450 words,
Start by listing your own assumptions about how things go in midlife for most people, especially relating to peoples’ ability (or need) to redefine themselves.
Next, using any media source or people you know in midlife, find and describe at least one example of a person who has been successful in their redefinition (e.g., Julie Andrews adjusting her career after a botched throat surgery) and at least one example of a person who has been unsuccessful at redefinition (e.g., Robin Williams choosing to commit suicide after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease or Madonna becoming bitter at losing her earlier dominance).
List any cultural considerations that you believe have affected your subject’s transition.
Which of these examples were easier to find or more plentiful? Do these results confirm or contradict your assumptions?
