  • Designing Communication Strategies for Successful Change “Communication Strategies for Facilitating Successful Change: A Guide for Leaders” “Effective Communication Strategies for Implementing Change Initiatives”

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum,
Read Week 5 Lecture Notes. (hello writer, these lecture notes are copied & pasted down below)
    Weekly Learning Objectives Covered
In this discussion forum, you will design strategies for a communication process that facilitates successful change.
    Imagine that:
You are the liaison between the decision makers and the followers.
Your role is to communicate potential personnel change initiatives.
In your post, using the communication strategies found in the text,
List the actions you will take to format the conversation with employees regarding the restructuring process.
Design a strategy to communicate the personnel change initiatives.
Your main post must be a minimum of 300 words.
    Week 5 Lecture Notes
During the stages of planning, designing and implementation, leaders should pause and ask questions such as,
Is the change process ethically focused?
Has the team considered the ethical responsibility of the organization?
Has the company carefully considered possible risks?
How can those risks be minimized so that harm does not occur or is greatly reduced for stakeholders.
Having a strong ethical focus, when designing any change process will help create sustainable change.
If the change action has been properly designed to reduce or eliminate risks and implemented, it is now imperative that the leader pursues the organization’s culture and sees that the change is sustainable and embedded in the organization’s structure. This sounds like a simple task; one would assume that the change would be visible and therefore successful. However, here too, questions have to be asked, such as,
How does the leader know if the change initiative is actually embedded and part of the culture?
How does the leader know that the organization has become the new dynamic and is not just something they do – like a bullet point on the agenda?
How can the change practice be measured?
The leader must be fully committed at this point to devote their time and energy to ensure that the change is streaming throughout the organization.
The communication process plays a vital role to the success or failure of change. The leader has to take effective measures that will help the embedding process, such as:
Clearly explaining the roles of each player, so that they realize the purpose and importance of their role in the change process
Ensuring that change actions are tied to the strategic plan within the organization, thereby setting the path for its future growth and initiatives
Measuring the progress and celebrating the successes, as these will lessen the chaos that often accompanies change
Recognizing that productive failure is part of the process that allows participants to own the problem
Redesigning helps to develop collaborative effort
Review the video Lead Like the Great Conductors (Link: https://www.ted.com/talks/itay_talgam_lead_like_the_great_conductors).
Each of the conductors in the video had a specific technique and style of communication. The orchestra understood the visual actions of the maestro and performed the expected behaviors to achieve the desired outcome. While every situation required the same ending, the guidance of the leader was very different. Developing the communication pattern was not something that happened overnight. The understanding took time and effort.
“Crying wolf” is not an attractive behavior of the change manager. It is crucial that the change manager understands when to develop an urgency and an escalation of commitment for seeking ownership and assistance. If everything becomes an urgent matter, then nothing is an urgent matter! Likewise, declaring victory too soon could cause a critical aspect of the implementation to be overlooked. The savvy change manager carefully paces the process and the communication throughout the initiative. Exploring clear and concise leadership from within the organization helps to establish a new culture.
The leader must mirror the new culture and the behaviors expected with the initiative (Cignoranelli, 2003). Taking change to the personal level encourages the participant to develop an ownership and partnership in the change, often ensuring the desired outcomes. The language of change must fit the audience. The dialogue for selling change to the internal culture will likely differ when communicating the same to external shareholders.
The bottom line? Communication is a key ingredient for change implementation and overall sustainability. Recognizing that each phase of change requires a new path of dialogue will help participants move through each phase and partner in the process

  • “Finding Stability in Chaos: How Gymnastics Helped Me Cope with My Parents’ Divorce”

When I thought about my worst nightmares, my parents getting divorced was one
of them. I always thought that it would limit the time I spend with each of my parents and I would be forced to decide which of them to live with. That’s exactly what happened. I got the news when I was 12 years old, when I was just starting my teenage years. I could feel my stability fall apart and in an instant, my whole life fell apart just like how I expected it but I saw it coming.
I expected to feel sad and hurt, and that’s how I felt. I was just starting my
teenage years, my friends were starting to have an interest in fashion, clothes, makeup, and boys. But all I could think of was my parent’s divorce, all I could think of was about fixing it. I thought I had to start from that problem since their divorce made our financial situation unstable. I couldn’t afford what my friends were getting or wearing but that was not the worst part. I thought I couldn’t afford a stable family and that’s what hurt me the most. I started to feel different from my friends and caused me to fall deeper and deeper within myself and I thought that nothing could show me out. I lost some friends and I fell behind in school because I was only focused on the only thing that I had control of which was gymnastics.
I got into gymnastics when I was 11 years old and the thing about gymnastics is
that it takes about a year to advance to the next level. I started at level 2 and in less than a year I was already at level 5 at the age of 12 and by the age of 15 I reached level 9. My coaches thought that I was just really good and exceptionally disciplined considering that I started gymnastics late. But there was nothing discipline about me, I was just hurting and gymnastics was the only thing that made me feel like I had control over.
I considered gymnastics to be both an individual and team sport. Even though
you are usually competing with other gymnasts and friends. My friends competed with one another but we were still a team. But I didn’t feel like the competition was with my friends or other gymnasts but rather with my feeling of agony. All I wanted was to overcome that feeling, and I did it for moments when I won first place, but the feeling was stronger than me. I just kept competing with the feeling until I quit when I was 15 years old. I quit because I moved to the USA from Bolivia and I couldn’t afford it anymore. It was not hard for me to quit gymnastics, it was time for me to move on from the feeling as I believe I was not doing it with joy but rather with agony.
Regardless, gymnastics taught me valuable lessons. I grew to realize that I learn more from losing than winning and it taught me especially how to become more disciplined within myself. In particular, gymnastics provided me a sense of control over my life that I needed in that period of time my parents were getting a divorce.

  • “Exploring Crime Fiction: A Creative and Reflective Project”

    Independent project
This assignment is designed for you to apply what you have been learning throughout the semester beyond the readings and viewings on the syllabus. The range of possibilities for this assignment are broad, so if you have ideas beyond the options described here, please do reach out to me to ensure that they will meet the requirements.
Option 1: Write part of a script for a film or television episode, or, write a short story, part of a short story, the opening of a novel, or a detailed plot outline, for an original work of crime fiction.    You are encouraged to use your existing creative talents, or experiment developing new ones. The creative work itself should constitute 2-3 pages minimum, in whatever medium, and you must include a      500 word accompanying reflection piece. The reflection piece should make explicit connections to how your creative work has been inspired by what you have learned in this class: it could discuss how particular texts inspired you in terms of both form and content, and/or how you have attempted to challenge generic conventions that you have become familiar with. A good way to approach this is to analyze your own work in terms of form, content, and to some extent context (in terms of recognizing how you are writing from a particular point in history and from a particular worldview). You can submit this as one file, or two separate files, depending on the nature of your project.
You will be graded on the following criteria:
    1. Your level of engagement with ideas and concepts that we have been discussing this semester. Have you missed obvious connections, or left others undeveloped?
    2. Your ability to successfully apply these ideas and concepts in a new situation. Can you articulate precisely how you are using what you have learned? For example, rather than saying “I used characterization in my story” or “author X uses characterization in my story”, can you explain specifically how you are using the concept “characterization” in this new context?
    3. The presentation of the project itself, meaning the extent to which you avoid obvious errors, present your ideas in a coherent way, and the visual or audio clarity of your project (is it accessible to an outside reader/viewer?) A good way of thinking about this is to ask yourself not just whether your instructor can follow what you are presenting, but whether a fellow student not in this class could understand the logic of your presentation, creative project, or reflection piece.

  • Title: Driving Action for Quality Improvement: A Logic Model and Action Plan for Translating Research into Practice

Driving Action to Promote Translation of Research for Quality Improvement
Complete your Module 5 Assignment by the end of Week 5.
In the Module 1 Discussion, you selected an issue in your current practice you feel creates barriers to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based nursing care. In this assignment, you will apply what you have learned to create a logic model and an action plan for resolving your issue and implementing the results in practice. The logic model and the action plan will serve as the major components of a Quality Improvement (QI) Action Plan.
As a prelude to this assignment, view the video, The Stevens Star Model of Knowledge Transformation, which depicts how newly discovered knowledge moves into practice. As you complete your assignment, consider how the steps you are taking toward a quality improvement project align with the Stevens Star Model, also known as the ACE Star Model.
The Stevens Star Model of Knowledge TransformationLinks to an external site.
    Step 1. Review
In Chapter 15 of the Boswell and Cannon text, review Figures 15-2 (p. 352) and 15-3 (p. 356) which show examples of a logic model template and an action plan worksheet used to promote quality improvement in clinical practice.
    Step 2. Access
Access the Logic Model Template and the Action Plan Worksheet.
    Step 3. Complete
Complete the Logic Model Template and the Action Plan Worksheet for the clinical practice issue you identified in the Module 1 Discussion and as the major components of a Quality Improvement (QI) Action Plan.
    Step 4. Introduce
In 1-2 paragraphs, introduce the Quality Improvement (QI) Action Plan, including the completed Logic Model Template and the Action Plan Worksheet for your proposed qualitative or mixed-method research on the selected clinical practice issue.
    Step 5. Present
Present the final Quality Improvement (QI) Action Plan, including the Logic Model Template and the Action Plan Worksheet, to an administrator or other appropriate party for feedback and implementation consideration. At the conclusion of the presentation, provide the administrator or other party an original evaluation seeking their opinion as to identified strengths or weaknesses in your plan. Will it be implemented? Why or why not?
    Step 6. Reflect
In 1-2 paragraphs, reflect upon your meeting with the administrator or other administrative party to whom you presented your final Quality Improvement Action Plan. Describe how it was received. Reflect on the administrators or other parties response to your evaluation questions (Were there identified strengths or weaknesses in your plan, for example? Will it be implemented? Why or why not?)
    Step 7 Submit
Submit an APA-formatted paper of no more than 5 pages in length excluding references and title page including:
    Quality Improvement Action Plan paper
Attach your completed  Action Worksheet, Model Template, and  the “ Administrator/other Party evaluation” as appendices.
In your concluding paragraph of your Quality Improvement Action Plan Paper, reflect on:
The process of creating the logic model and action plan,
How your quality improvement project aligns with the Stevens ACE Star Model,
Your overall learning in the course about evidence-based practice (EBP) and quality improvement.
