“Exploring Intersectionality: A Feminist Research Proposal” “Uncovering Feminist Perspectives: The Results of Our Research Project”
Below there are descriptions for TWO options for your submissions. You will choose either a RESEARCH PROPOSAL or RESULTS OF RESEARCH, for those of you who were able to engage in the actual research.
>> Either option should be within the range of 1500-2500 words.
You must give it a title! (Why? If it’s a proposal, a good title is more likely to attract support, including funding; if it’s a written or otherwise creatively produced result of research, it’s the first thing to draw a reader/viewer in.)
Option 1. RESEARCH PROPOSAL.
This option is for those who will not be able to engage in their actual planned research.
Research Proposal
Note: recall our discussions about writing. As we have discussed, it is ok and in many cases advisable (motivated by feminist practice) to use “I”/ “we” statements!
Elements to cover
Pts
Notes
Topic description and question formulation
2 pts
Now that you have seriously examined this question, use more precise wording as this section should reflect a much greater degree of advancement of your framing of the project. Important here to check for inappropriate generalizations! You can also include here the ways your research question has developed from an earlier version: what pitfalls or problems did you encounter and how does the revised question improve on them?
What is known about the topic?
(for social scientists, this is often referred to as a “lit review”; for humanists it’s more loosely considered a review of existing literature/research/knowledge productions).
3 pts
Review the secondary sources you have located, including at least some of the works included in your annotated bibliography. In discussing what is known, you can arrive at what is not yet known, effectively identifying what your own research project would contribute. For instance: “These works’ single-issue approaches can yield skewed findings that our current project, with its intersectional focus, is uniquely capable of addressing.”
Plan – Methods/Approaches:
What is the plan for a careful approach to your inquiry?
5 pts
Identify the information you need, explaining how the approach provides a specific portion of that information you need.
Also – and this is critical! – describe how you will analyze the information you gather, and why this is appropriate to your research goals.
Uses for this knowledge:
Audiences and specific uses
3 pts
Intended publication type(s) (be specific), distribution to a relevant community, or descriptions of other uses. This should matter to you – who is your audience, and why do they count as your audience? Ultimately, if your research culminates in a communicative act, why that communication is important has to do with where it is destined.
How this is feminist research:
Give an account of the feminist aspects of your approach
2 pts
Consider questions of ethics, feminist angles on your topic, feminist theories, and questions of process in your discussion.
Addenda/appendix/extra materials
3 pts
Include a discussion of how each of you found ways to contribute to this project, including not just the nuts and bolts of the plan, but also writeup, dreaming, other forms of support. Include here drafts of questions or other research “tools”, and other materials that constitute essential parts of, or be necessary to execute, the research plan, such as a budget and estimated time scope. For example, if it is a survey, include the detail of that survey here. If it is an interview, give more information about how that interview will be conducted. Also include a list of works actually cited.
Presentation:
Please spend 5 minutes as a team sharing your research project.
3 pts
You can be informal! Please consider using slides or images (be judicious) or interactivity, such as asking questions of your audience (if you are taking 10 minutes, probably not if shorter). You should minimally discuss the inquiry and your approach to it; the rest of the presentation can address each aspect of the research, or focus on one or another aspect of the project. Do feel welcome to share what was surprising about investigating or doing research in this project.
Option 2. RESULTS OF RESEARCH.
This option is for those writing up their completed research as an academic paper or other form, such as a creative form. These will vary much more radically than in Option 1. If an academic paper, the more social science/empirical the project was, the more likely you will be to use elements from the sections above.
Results of Research
Note: recall our discussions about writing. As before, it is ok and in many cases advisable (motivated by feminist practice) to use “I”/ “we” statements!

Main composition of writing or creative work
6 pts
This will be the main work itself, understood in terms of clarity, comprehensiveness, cohesion, form. You may choose a traditional form of academic writing, unique forms of creative writing or cultural production; however, I recommend aiming for more transparency rather than less, and providing guidelines for the reception of the work unless it is obvious.
Rationale
6 pts
If aspects of the research have been obscured by the creative form you have used, you should include an “artist’s statement” of sorts that connects the realization of the work to your approaches in detail. For instance, your research question, if not explained in the work itself, should be shared here.
Addenda/appendix/extra materials, including how this is feminist research
5 pts
· Include a discussion of how each of you found ways to contribute to this project, including not just the nuts and bolts of the plan, but also writeup, dreaming, other forms of support. Include also:
· Drafts of questions or other research tools, and other materials that constitute essential parts of, or be necessary to execute, the research plan, such as a budget and estimated time scope. For example, if it is a survey, include the detail of that survey here. If it is an interview, give more information about how that interview will be conducted.
· A list of works actually cited
· A discussion of how this is feminist research: Consider questions of ethics, feminist angles on your topic, feminist theories, and questions of process.

“Exploring the Global Impact of a Moral Issue on Cultural Communities: An Analysis Using Moral Theories”
a. Identify a moral issue à It will help you immensely if you use your group presentation topic as the moral issue of your ePortfolio paper. This way you only need to do one research project. You can, however, choose a separate topic. NOT EVERYTHING THAT IS CONTROVERSIAL IS A MORAL ISSUE—you must have your topic approved by me before you begin.
b. Determine how this issue affects multiple cultural communities à I am willing to entertain that you may decide to identify these communities along whatever demarcations work best for your existing knowledge, areas of interest, and ease of analysis.
c. Identify the ways this moral issue has had a global impact à Again, I am willing to let you decide what constitutes a global “impact,” however, you must determine these within the scope of the affects on the communities identified in (b) above. You must identify at least two ways this issue impacts these communities. You ought to consider an impact a way in which the moral issue creates additional complications for those communities.
d. Research à Research is more than just doing google searches although starting with a few google searches will help Being by identifying several “key terms” and use them to whittle down your research scope. Scroll through news articles that contain your search terms, watch news clips that discuss your issue, find sources that provide analysis from the perspective of the communities you are analyzing. You must use a minimum of five (5) sources for your essay and you must quote from those sources a minimum of two (2) times each in your essay – that means there should be at leastten (10) citations in your written work. Of your five (5) required sources at least three (3) must be from reputable print sources and all web sources must be equally reputable. Avoid blogs, tweets, tiktoks, personal web pages (unless it is a reliable source). If you are unsure about the quality of a source ask me, another professor, or a librarian for assistance. You will likely need to do research to clearly identify how you want to complete (b) and (c) above.
e. Outline BEFORE you write à Your essay should include sections that clearly focus on and address the requirements of the essay as given. It is much easier to write an essay if you have a “roadmap” to follow. So, a basic outline should look something like this:
1) Introduction – briefly identify your issue, why it is a moral issue, how you are going to evaluate it – identify the two moral theories you are going to use, explain why it matters to current socio-political discourse. (150 – 200 words)
2) Main Idea – explain the moral issue in depth, provide explanations of *both sides* of the issue – apply analysis from your two theories here. What communities are affected? How does this issue have a global reach? (550 – 800 words)
3) Sub-Main Idea – How does this issue “impact” the global community? Remember to extend your analysis here of the main issue to demonstrate how it compounds problems in other areas in moral ways. (150 – 300 words)
4) Sub-Main Idea – What is a likely response to the issue? Why is that response a good moral critique of or position to take on the issue. You need to defend your position here so be sure to provide solid evidence in support of your claims. It is important that you are developing “your claims” and not merely parroting what other people are saying (300 – 500 words)
5) Conclusion – Sum up your position succinctly. However, you should also indicate problems with your proposed solution, areas where additional research may be needed, what might affect your judgement of the issue, etc. DO NOT SIMPLY RESTATE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE ALREADY SAID.
f. Write à Your essay should be type-written, 12 pt Times New Roman font, double spaced, appropriately formatted (standard settings in Word), and your citations should follow the guidelines of the Chicago Manual of Style (available free online) -
Title: The Importance of Cybersecurity in the Digital Age
With computers and smart phones everywhere and connected, cyber continues to be an important part of private, public, and commercial concern. Everything reachable through the Internet can be considered at risk. As the computer age came about, so did the importance of cybersecurity. Since nearly every system is now connected to the Internet, so has the vulnerability for cybercrimes. Technology innovation has resulted in improved tech devices, data, and mobile services. These new services collect and analyze huge amounts of information from private and proprietary information to company secrets. The continuation of the technology improvements creates a continued challenge to defend against hackers and thieves.
For this case, answer the following:
1. Define cybersecurity.
2. Explain the different categories of basic cyber threats to a system.
3. Identify and discuss the actors, targets, methods, and impacts involved in cyber-attacks. -

The Role of a Nurse Manager: Essential Responsibilities, Educational Preparation, and Alignment with the Christian Worldview The Role of a Clinical Nurse Leader in Improving Patient Outcomes and Promoting Professional Development “The Role of the Christian Nurse Leader in Promoting Patient-Centered Care”
Discuss a formal role where a nurse is in a position of leadership. Outline the essential responsibilities of that role and the educational preparation required. Explain what leadership traits, styles, or qualities are required to be successful in this role and why. How do these traits, styles, or qualities align with the Christian worldview?
example 1 (Luis) A Nurse Manager or Nurse Supervisor is a formal position in which a nurse frequently assumes a leadership role. Typically, many nurses begin their careers by assuming the role of charge nurses or taking on some form of leadership position within their assigned unit. Nurses in this role not only deliver hands-on patient care but also supervise other nurses and healthcare personnel in a certain unit or department. Nurse Managers have the responsibility of organizing schedules, allocating tasks, and offering direction to the nursing personnel. They also serve as an extension of the company they work for (AdventHealth University, 2022). Additionally, they are responsible for supervising the distribution of resources such as supplies and equipment. Nurse Managers oversee and analyze data to uphold the standards of patient care. They utilize all of these measures to ensure strict compliance with norms and regulations. Nurse Managers often possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) as a minimum qualification, and many choose to pursue higher degrees such as a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA). Advanced education equips individuals with the requisite information and expertise essential for assuming leadership positions, encompassing healthcare administration, finance, human resources, and organizational behavior. Success in leadership necessitates specific traits, styles, or qualities. One crucial aspect is the possession of effective communication abilities. Nurse Managers excel when they possess strong verbal and written communication skills to efficiently transmit information, attentively address issues, and facilitate discussions. Christian leadership frequently highlights servant leadership, wherein leaders prioritize the needs of others over their own. Nurse Managers exemplify this ideal by humbly and compassionately serving both patients and staff in their professions. Characteristics such as empathy, compassion, and integrity, which are highly regarded in Christian teachings, are essential for good nursing leadership. In the healthcare leadership setting, the Christian worldview places great emphasis on the significance of ethical decision-making and responsible management of resources. Essentially, the position of Nurse Manager necessitates a blend of clinical proficiency, managerial aptitude, and leadership attributes. Nurse Managers that are effective demonstrate qualities such as empathy, strong communication abilities, and adaptability. These principles are in line with the Christian concepts of servant leadership, compassion, and ethical stewardship. (Marquis, 2017). Nurse Managers, via their leadership, enhance the welfare of patients and staff by maintaining elevated care standards rooted in the Christian perspective. AdventHealth University. Marquis, B. L., & Huston, C. J. (2017). Leadership roles and management functions in nursing:
Theory and application (9th ed.). Wolters Kluwer.
Example 2 (Kristen) The role of a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is a formal leadership position that is responsible for overseeing the entire nursing staff within a healthcare organization. This includes managing the nursing department, developing and implementing policies and procedures, working with other departments to ensure quality patient care, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The essential responsibilities of a CNO include developing and implementing strategic plans, managing nursing budgets, evaluating staff performance, developing and implementing nursing policies and procedures, and overseeing the nursing staff’s day-to-day operations. To become a CNO, one must usually have a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree, as well as several years of experience as a registered nurse (RN) and as a nurse manager or administrator. Some organizations may also require certification as a nurse executive (NE-BC) or a nurse executive advanced (NEA-BC). Successful CNOs possess several key leadership traits, including solid communication and interpersonal skills, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, a commitment to excellence, and a dedication to patient-centered care. At the heart of the Christian worldview is the belief that all human beings are created in the image of God and are, therefore, called to love and serve one another. This principle is reflected in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, who modeled a life of selfless service and compassion for others. Christians believe that by following in his footsteps and embodying these values, they can make a positive impact on the world around them and bring about meaningful change in the lives of those they encounter. Through leadership in practice, this means that servant leaders are called to live a life of service and give of themselves generously to others. Christians also strive to embody compassion in their interactions with others, seeking to understand and empathize with those struggling or suffering. Finally, Christians are called to live a life of ethical conduct, guided by a set of moral principles that prioritize honesty, integrity, and justice. This means being truthful in all their dealings, treating others with respect and dignity, and promoting fairness and equality in all aspects of society. These principles form the foundation of the Christian worldview, guiding believers in their daily lives and inspiring them to make a meaningful difference in the world through leadership.

Example 3 ( Alexia) The role of a Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) is to provide leadership in the clinical setting and improve patient outcomes by facilitating evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and patient-centered care. The CNL coordinates care across multiple disciplines, implements best practices, and evaluates patient outcomes (Hulett & Shatto, 2021). The CNL also mentors other nurses, providing guidance and support for professional development (Van Orne & Branson, 2022). To become a CNL, one must typically possess a master’s degree in nursing and obtain certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (Hulett & Shatto, 2021). The educational preparation required for the role of CNL includes advanced coursework in leadership, healthcare systems, and patient-centered care. (Hulett & Shatto, 2021). To be successful in the role of CNL, one must possess leadership traits, styles, or qualities such as solid communication skills, critical thinking ability, emotional intelligence, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team (Van Orne & Branson, 2022). Additionally, CNLs must be committed to lifelong learning and willing to adapt to changes in the healthcare environment. These traits, styles, and qualities align with the Christian worldview in that they prioritize the needs of others, embody humility, and promote ethical decision-making. Christians are called to serve others and prioritize others’ needs above their own. CNLs who embody these qualities are better equipped to provide patient-centered care and facilitate positive patient outcomes.

“Uncovering the Complexities of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A Critical Analysis and New Perspective”
The Background: For this final essay, you will explore some critical issue about which you have become
curious this semester—an issue that you may have touched upon in Assignments 0, 1, or 2 but that you
didn’t get a chance to explore fully. You will find the conversation about this issue and (in a thesis-driven
research essay) add a unique contribution to that conversation.
The Audience: Educated, civic-minded individuals who already understand the basic concepts of the topic
you’ve chosen to write about.
make sure it is unbiased and introduce a new idea to the discussion: Include the history of DEI, the current situations regarding DEI, and possible outcomes as well.
This 2500-word thesis-driven argument will take a clear but thoughtful stand on a critical issue. Your discussion should be informed by thorough research—the essay should cite at least 8 reliable, relevant sources. However, your intellectual curiosity should drive the paper’s purpose and unity. In other words, don’t string together a bunch of sources. Your essay should not be an “info dump” about what “they say” on the issue. Your research and integration of sources should be a way to deepen and improve your thinking, not a replacement for thinking.
Use the interview as a source!
