You are required to attend 2 different self-help groups. This will give you the opportunity to see the differences in groups. After each group, please complete the SELF-HELP GROUP ASSESSMENT SHEET and submit them at the completion of the project via email to your instructor.
For the most current information about self-help groups and meetings check their websites or call directly. Below is an example of where you can find Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) in San Mateo County but there are many, many 12 step meetings all over the world and many are now on Zoom 24/7. There are also self help groups for many other conditions like depression, Bipolar disorder, grief and Loss, etc. Please plan to attend one AA meeting and the second meeting can be NA, Overeaters Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous, etc.

Title: “Behavioral Insights for Improving Voter Turnout in Local Elections” Introduction: In this proposal, I will be working with a local government in the United States, specifically the city of Boston. The city government has approached me to
For this final assignment, pretend you have been hired by a governance organization – your client can be the federal government, a foreign government, a state or city government, a corporate or NGO board of directors, even a student government. They want your behavioral insights to help them address some issue – it can be a problem they have, an attempt to make improvements somewhere, or an enhancement in the lives of people whom their policies or projects affect.
Please explain who it is you are working for/with and why they might have approached you. Please explain what the problem is, and who might be affected (it is sometimes easier to focus on a specific group rather than the entire population). As relevant, please identify, concretely, which specific judgments, decisions, or behaviors you are addressing, and what the main bottlenecks are, currently. Please explain, concretely, how your insights and ideas could make a difference.
Please refer to what you’ve learned in the course, and feel welcome to expand with additional relevant research findings and references, in your proposal for a behaviorally informed approach / agenda / solution.
Please refer to at least 5 concepts from our course that you think are relevant and may prove useful to your proposed approach. Explain carefully what concepts and ideas you are using, and why you think they are relevant and might help. Please use these judiciously, and explain – merely making mention of terms is not helpful.
Your proposal can include novel ideas and interventions, as well as revisions of actual, existing policies that, in your view, might be lacking from a behavioral perspective. You are encouraged to be creative and original. At the same time, you should be sensitive to whether your proposals, as far as you can tell, are viable from a legal / ethical / logistical perspective (For example: Is local government allowed to impose a particular restriction? Are there enough facilities to allow a proposed new intervention? Are these interventions ethical?) Of course, we do not expect you to be an expert on all ethical, legal, and logistical matters – just be sensitive to, and mention, where certain ethical / legal / logistical challenges may need to be addressed to make the proposal feasible.
Your paper should be roughly 5-7 pages (double spaced). Naturally, a project like this does not have “right” or “wrong” answers. We are looking for behavioral insights and creativity, and effective research and argumentation relying on the rich material you’ve encountered throughout the semester. Please submit a well-crafted and carefully argued document. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO ACCESS Thaler, Richard, and Cass Sunstein. Chapters 4-8, Nudge: The Final Edition. 2021. Please mostly refer to this. -
“Fueling Your Fitness: The Importance of Pre- and Post-Exercise Nutrition and Creating a Nutritional Plan for Active Individuals” Fueling Your Fitness: The Importance of Pre- and Post-Exercise Nutrition and Creating a Nutritional Plan for Active
Nutrition plays an essential role in supporting fitness and exercise. If you increase your level of physical activity, your need for nutrients and calories will also increase. In addition, the foods you eat before and after you exercise will have an impact on your performance during the physical activity and on your recovery afterward.
Perform some library research, and in a 2-3 page paper written in APA format using proper spelling/grammar, address the following:
Describe the importance of pre- and post-exercise nutrition choices. Provide examples of foods that are appropriate selections for each category.
Explain how foods and nutrients (including fluids and electrolytes) help improve a person’s performance during physical activity and their recovery afterward.
Consider your responses to items 1 and 2 above, and suggest an appropriate nutritional plan for a physically active person. Be sure to explain what the person should consume in an average day to support their caloric and nutritional needs.
Cite at least 2 credible references and present the resources in APA format on the References page. -

“The Banking Model of Education: Paolo Freire’s Critique of Traditional Education and Class Oppression”
Read pp. 71-77 (to the end of first full paragraph on p. 77) of Chapter 2 from Paolo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed. Published in English in 1970, Pedagogy of the Oppressed presents Freire’s ideas about the problems with traditional models of education. He argues that these traditional models of education have reinforced unfair class distinctions, leading to the oppression of the poor. Here, we read an excerpt from just one small excerpt of the entire work, and, as a result, we will be concentrating simply on Freire’s analysis of what he calls “the banking model” of education.
Freire’s ideas were controversial when they were published, and they continue to be so. It is worth engaging with controversial texts in order to understand how the author makes his/her argument. Rhetorical analysis gives us the tools to do so without feeling threatened by the author’s ideas. -
“Cultural Studies: Exploring the Interconnectedness of Culture and Politics Through a Critical Analysis of [Object of Study]”
This course’s Final Project (worth 30% of your final grade), which is due on May 19th, consists in a Cultural Studies research project. It is inspired by the Public Humanities
1) Format :
1,200-word academic research paper
2) Remember that this is a Cultural Studies project, which means that it should address the interconnectedness between culture and politics (in a broad sense), as discussed in sessions 3-4
You can find it below in pdf
3) Choose one specific object of analysis (a “text” or cultural phenomenon):
A movie, TV show, or videogame
A song, music video, album, or artist
A short story, poem, or book
A social movement, artivism practices
Political communication, propaganda
Fashion
(Anything that can be considered “culture” or a “text” in Cultural Studies)
4) Your project should be centered around a thesis, that is, a new and original idea. Think of it this way: what do you have to say about your object of study that has not been said already? (And remember you must have received my approval on your Final Project proposal)
5) Your project should be current and relevant. Why does this object of study matter to us today? How can you connect it with present-day issues and discussions? Why should your audience care about it?
6) Minimum required number of cited sources: 4 (including at least 1 work/text from the course). You can use both academic and non-academic sources (keeping in mind that academic sources are much more solid and reliable). With your submission, make sure to include a written list of references, preferably in APA style.
7) AI policy: AI allowed only for brainstorming and proofreading. Presenting long AI-generated passages or ideas as if they were your own is not allowed (as it constitutes plagiarism and academic dishonesty). The work you submit should reflect your own ideas and research. Using AI-powered academic research engines (Elicit, ConnectedPapers) is allowed, but you should only cite sources which you have actually read (AI tends to “hallucinate” quotes and sources, which renders it unreliable). Dishonest uses of GenAI in this assignment will automatically result in a zero grade. Please contact me if you have any doubts about this policy.
Grading rubric:
Originality, critical thinking, effort (30%)
Meaningful connections with course contents, discussions, and materials (20%)
Currency and relevance (15%)
Quality of the sources and concepts used (15%)
Professionalism (overall presentation, following instructions, meeting deadline) (20%) -

Title: Culturally-Neutral Assessment: An Ethical Imperative in Employee Selection
An ethical decision-making model is a tool that can be used by professionals in psychology to help develop the ability to think through an ethical dilemma and arrive at a responsible and ethical decision. This assignment assesses your application of ethical decision-making by requiring critical thinking and analysis through your recommendations to an ethical dilemma.
Read the following scenario:
You work for a large corporation in human resources as a psychologist. In that capacity, it is your job to select and administer psychological tests that measure intelligence and cognitive ability as part of the employee selection process. The company has been hiring engineers and you notice that in the next group of prospects, many are recent immigrants from Pakistan, Korea, and India. You realize that the standardized tests you have been using do not seem to be culture-neutral and are biased toward native English speakers.
Develop an 8- to 10-slide Microsoft PowerPoint® presentation to corporate managers with detailed speaker notes on the selection process of a culture-neutral assessment. The cover and reference page is NOT counted.
Address the following questions or objectives:
Should you use different tests that are less culture-bound?
How would you select assessments that are culture-neutral?
What criteria would you use? What, if any, ethical issues are involved?
How and why would using culturally biased tests be an ethical issue here?
What does the APA Ethics Code say about the importance of culture-neutral assessment?
Include examples of ways in which culture-biased assessments have been problematic.
How would you select tests that are culture-neutral?
Include examples of when culture-biased assessments have been problematic.
Explain the consequences of not following the selection process for both the client and psychologist.
Describe how the APA decision-making process facilitates more ethical professional behavior. -
