“Deep-fake Videos and Disinformation: An Ethical Analysis through the Lens of Virtue Ethics”
The Ethics Paper will give you the opportunity to research an ethical issue and present clear and valid moral arguments for and against your position and provide an analysis of the issue using the strengths and weakness of an ethical theory covered in class.
the topic i have chosen is “Deep-fake videos and disinformation”
Deep-fake videos involve the use of AI to create realistic-looking
videos of people saying or doing things they never did.
and the position i am taking is : Deep-fake videos compromise the integrity of media and are unethical in all contexts, as they deceive and sow distrust within society.
the ethical theory i am using is Virtue ethics
Virtue ethics is a philosophical approach that focuses on the character
of the moral agent rather than the consequences of actions or adherence
to rules. It emphasizes cultivating virtuous traits such as honesty,
integrity, and trustworthiness. According to virtue ethics, ethical
decisions are made by considering what a virtuous person would do in a
given situation.
I believe this is the best theory to address my ethical topic because it
emphasizes the importance of character and moral integrity. Prioritizing
privacy, truthfulness, and societal trust aligns with virtuous traits such
as honesty, respect, and responsibility. By considering the virtues
involved in the use of deep-fake technology, individuals and
organizations can make ethical decisions that promote the well-being of
societal and uphold moral principles.
here is the rubric
The submission includes a well- written overview of the ethical topic. There is a clear focus on the ethics of the topic.
The ethical position is ethical and described with clarity using excellent details. There is a strong and valid ethical position statement written in the first section of the paper.

“Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the Coronavirus Crisis” The coronavirus crisis has been a defining moment in our history, and it will undoubtedly be the subject of extensive scholarly debate for years to come. As we reflect on this traumatic period, different individuals have offered their
Choose one of the essay questions below and answer it in no more than four pages. There are no right or wrong answers to these essays. Your grade will be determined by your ability to correctly analyze the situation using the relevant concepts. Be sure to bring in the voices of relevant thinkers from our course materials.
We use fictive characters to prime your memory, but please feel free to address the topics below without referencing the fictive characters. Be sure to discuss multiple authors in your answer–focusing only on one writer/reading will not meet our expectations.
3. The Coronavirus emergency is a historical event that will yield extensive scholarly debate in years to come. Reflecting on this traumatic period, Jorge, Sam, Melissa, Jack, and Melinda shared their thoughts. Jorge argued that the works of Javier Lezaun, Michael Heller, and Rebecca Eisenberg on patenting provide useful concepts for thinking about the struggle to contain coronavirus. On the other hand, Sam suggested that rationalization, as outlined by Max Weber, is invaluable in understanding both the spread of the virus and the struggles around the best way to contain it. Melissa suggested that understanding the spread and botched efforts to prevent the spread of the virus in the United States requires that we pay attention to labor markets and how different technologies shape workers’ ability to withstand market shocks and closure (Mitchell, Irani, and Felstinger play an essential role in her thinking). Jack did not contradict others but argued that Weingart’s perspective on the current crisis is that expertise best explains the US response to the pandemic. Finally, Melinda suggested that our understanding of the crisis on how difficult it is for people to “socially distance” can be analyzed through Sherry Turkle’s argument on social relationships and the internet. Who, in your educated opinion, is correct? Your answer does not have to touch on all the authors/theories mentioned above, but be sure to include at least three. -

Molecular Modeling and Pharmacological Analysis of Chiral Drugs: A Case Study on Ibuprofen
Molecular Modeling of Chiral Drugs
Background:
About more than half of the over the counter and prescription drugs are chiral compounds but almost 90% of them are sold as racemates consisting of a 50:50% mixture of two enantiomers (Nguyen, et. al., 2006). As learned in this Module, although enantiomers have the same chemical structure, many chiral drugs have differences in biological activities such as pharmacology, toxicology, pharmacokinetics, and metabolism. For example, Advil contains S-ibuprofen that is over 100-fold more potent as an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase I than (R)-ibuprofen. Furthermore, in the body, only inactive R-enantiomer inverts by hepatic enzymes into the active S-enantiomer (Landoni, 2001 and Marzo, 2002).
Instructions:
Pick one molecules of the following racemic drugs with one major bioactive enantiomer
Calcium channel antagonists are used under racemic form such as verapamil, nicardipine, nimodipine, nisoldipine, felodipine, mandipine.
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors are medications that help relax the veins and arteries to lower blood pressure. ACE inhibitors include captopril, benazepril, enalapril, idapril.
Hypnotics such as hexobarbital, secobarbital, mephobarbital, pentobarbital, thiopental, thiohexital.
Racemic drugs with equally bioactive enantiomers, such as cyclophosphamide (antineoplastic), flecainide (antiarrhythmic), fluoxetine (antidepressant).
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID), namely ibuprofen, ketoprofen, fenprofen, benoxaprophen,
Conduct research on this racemic drug online and using the CSU library and write a 500 word summary on the drugs pharmacology, toxicology, pharmacokinetics, and metabolism.
In the summary, indicate how chirality and stereoisomers could influence the pharmacology, bioactivity, toxicology, pharmacokinetics, and metabolism.
Build a molecular model of both enantiomers of this drug and take a photo of the enantiomers oriented in a way that it clearly shows the non superimposability of the mirror images.
Point out the chiral center or centers and indicate absolute configuration (R or S) of each chiral center.

“Addressing Critical Issues in Law Enforcement: An Analysis of Training and Use-of-Force Technology” Title: Understanding the Difference between Academic and Popular Works
CRITICAL ISSUES ANALYSIS RESEARCH PAPER -DUE THURSDAY, 05/04/24, BY 11:59 PM, MST – 175 points
This final research paper is due, submitted in the paper’s module, no later than Thursday, May 4th [05/04/24], by 11:59 PM MST: The written assignment for this course, worth 175 points, is an analysis of a critical policing issue facing law enforcement today. You have two topic areas to choose from:
> The first topic/area you can choose will deal with law enforcement training academy curricula and all law enforcement training nationwide.
Specifically, the student will address the following question: Should all law enforcement training around the country, in all 50 states, be mandated, created, and regulated solely by the U.S. Department of Justice so that peace officers, no matter where they work in the U.S., are all trained to the same level of professionalism, competency, and response?
Per our conversations in the course, remember that at this time, all state and local peace officer training around the states is created, mandated, and controlled by the in-state Peace Officer Standards and Training Board’s controlled by the board of in-state police chiefs, sheriffs, civilians, and an over-seer from the state’s Attorney General’s Office. There is no national standard of how “policing” should be conducted in each state outside of relevant procedural laws based on case law in the federal District courts, Appellate courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
> Your second option/topic to choose is to research the Use-Of-Force technology available to law enforcement and how it might be controlled and used by all agencies and peace officers.
The question: Should the Federal government pay for a universal training program, all supply of, and mandatory use of Tasers, body and car cams, and other forms of technology that might aid police in doing their “job” in a professional and safe(r) manner? Bear in mind that the use of tasers, OC spray, body and car cams are not regulated nor provided for by the federal govt. nor state governments at this time – the choice to use such tech up to individual departments, though the certification or training to use such tech might be mandated itself by the state’s P.O.S.T. board.
You need only pick and research one of the two presented topic areas, your choice.
You can certainly email me if you have any further questions.
Format of the research paper:
Your paper should be no more than 6-10 pages, not including the title page and the bibliography AND it must be submitted in either the WORD .doc format OR as a .pdf file (ALSO, no Google Docs or Cloud formats may be used as they are locked with a password; and no other format like Publish or Apple-specific formats may be used. ALL word processors have a .pdf or Word .doc format file available in the Save As link…). Students will follow the APA Format, which is the accepted style in the Social Sciences. It should be double-spaced, in 12-point font using the Calibri, Tahoma, or Times New Roman font, with 1” margins, and submitted to me through its assignment submittal box.
This “critical issues” analysis paper is not a book report or a book review. It is intended to have you show that you can apply what you’ve learned in this course to research on the particular critical issue in social policy you have chosen above. The paper must apply concepts and material from this course to themes, findings, or conclusions of your research and information from the book. In your paper, you should try to concentrate on and develop a few themes; don’t spread yourself too thin and try to cover too much material from either the course or the research material you are analyzing.
Along with citing course readings or lectures in your essay, you must also cite at least five other academic or scholarly journals or books relevant to your topic. Use the various computerized literature searches available at the library or on-line to help you find relevant articles. If you aren’t sure of the difference between an academic work and a popular work, please ask for clarification. Wikipedia is not to be used as a reference.
It is very important to always credit and cite your sources appropriately. Academic honesty is very important to your success in this class. I expect a paper written by you, in your own words, and not previously submitted for another class.
Your paper needs to be clear and concise. You should edit and re-edit the paper several times before submitting it, cutting out extraneous words or sentences and re-wording as you go. Proper grammar, sentence structure, and spelling are important writing skills. Ask others to proof-read your paper for editorial and logical errors. Your paper should not exceed 10 double-spaced pages of 12-point text. -

“Combining Writing Modes: A Global Revision” “Preserving Your Originality: The Importance of a Creative Mindset”
Instructions
This longer essay should draw on all the skills employed in previous essays. Your argument will be supported by personal reflection, descriptive narration, stylistic and/or formal innovation, close reading/analysis of a primary source, and integration of relevant secondary sources. In other words, I am asking you to combine the various writing modes that are usually associated with composition classes.
You should think of this essay as a global revision. You are required to do more than polish and correct paper three. Paper 4 will be significantly different even though it must be recognizable as a revision. As you add more source materials, you will need to rewrite sections for coherence. You may end up completely reorganizing all the material you keep.
Some options:
You may keep the original pop culture source but change the argument.
You may retain your social issue and/or your personal component but work with different
sources.
You may add additional primary sources that will also require a shift in your argument so that your reader is prepared for a larger argument from the outset. (I do not recommend tacking new material onto the end.)
All sources should be documented in MLA format.
This 6-7 pp. essay should allow me to assess your ability to combine close reading of a primary source, supporting evidence from personal experience as well as from at least two different kinds of secondary sources. You should have 4-5 sources overall.
Elaboration on content
You may choose your own topic so long as you cover all of the technical and formal elements listed above.
You may find additional inspiration in the assigned essays we will read over the next three weeks.
You will be allowed to use one of the assigned sources to serve as a primary or a secondary source.
Do not use more than one of the assigned texts because I do want to see you conducting research, finding what you need rather than simply using the materials that I’ve found for you. You are not required to use any of the assigned readings.
It is possible for someone who wrote on a television episode to choose a different episode from the same program for the new essay. Much may depend on your ability to find fresh angles in order to add more content to the longer essay. If you don’t think you can say anything new about your primary source, then, you may be shifting the focus to different episodes so long as you are still working with some of the previous content, which might be related to the social issue. Similarly, you might use different songs off the same album. Or you might use an adaptation of the same story. (For example, if a graphic novel was adapted for television, you might decide to compare/contrast specific issues with specific episodes.)
Elaboration on source-type and documentation
I want to see at least three different types of sources being documented on your Work Cited page. Note that you are required to use 4-5 overall.
One will be the required primary (probably the one you used in essay three), then, you will have two other secondary sources that require you to consult and follow MLA guidelines provided via Canvas links. I specify two here, because you need to demonstrate an ability to document two different types of secondary sources. (If you choose an assigned essay from the textbook, you could find another source via a library database. An essay in an anthology and an essay in a database require different information in the final citation.)
The fourth and possibly the fifth source can be either primary or secondary. The primary source is the one you are analyzing (performing the original close reading of). The secondaries will be about the primary, about similar primaries, possibly in the same genre, and/or about the social issue/controversy you are using to connect your essay.
You need to maintain control over the essay, despite the number of sources. I recommend that you use your personal (reflective, descriptive) component to help you to maintain your originality.
