Pattern recognition is the process of searching for a predefined condition in a data set. The pattern is implied through the four strategies or is defined as an attribute to a fraud scenario. Every data interrogation routine uses pattern recognition. The key is to know what you are looking for versus identifying a data pattern that does not correlate to a fraud scenario (Vona, 2017).
