“Collaborating with Parents: Developing a School Counseling Brochure to Inform and Advocate for Student Success”

In accordance with ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors (2016), school counselors
must recognize their duty to collaborate with parent/ guardians when providing services to minor
students in schools (B.1.a). Furthermore, an ethical school counselor must inform parents/
guardians of the mission of the school counseling program as well as academic, career, and
social/ emotional program standards that promote and enhance learning for all students (B.1.e).
One way to inform stakeholders of the services a comprehensive school counseling program
offers is to develop a school counseling brochure. A school counseling brochure is also an
excellent advocacy tool for your program.
