Why I want to be a dentist:
• As a kid would watch my dad work (dental technician) for hours on end, in amazement. In the summers I would help my dad in his lab.
• Helped him transition over to the new technology for designing and milling crowns rather than doing it by hand
• but never saw myself doing that because I enjoyed working with people rather than a lab
• Strongly believe in doing what you love so I became a make up artist which was a hobby of mine and loved the satisfaction of people feeling beautiful and confident when I finished applying their makeup.
• When it was a quiet season for makeup, decided to find something to do to fill my free time, a stumbled apon an advertisment looking for a dental assistant that they were willing to train. Decided to try it out since i had some knowledge of dentistry from my dad. From the first day as a dental assistant, I was fascinated.
• I found my passion for dentistry and after some thougyht decided to follow that career path
• Everyday for almost three years that i worked there I was fasinated by each procedure as simple as a filling.
• Particular stories that stood out to me:
o Root canal pain: the office was closed for a holiday and i got a call from my boss that there was an emergency pacient that needed to be seen. We rushed over, there was a patient, curled up in tears in excruciating pain that couldn’t sleep, eat or even talk because she was in so much pain. I assisted with the root canal and when we were done she was out of pain and smiling, and extremely grateful. I want to be able to help people not be in pain, theres nothing like the satisfaction of helping people out of their misery.
o Want to help people feel confident about themselves and their smile has a lot to do with a persons confidence saw the importance in this story:
▪ One day a patient came in for a consult, with all her teeth decaying, she wanted to fix her teeth and said that she cant smile anymore because she was embarrassed. After a few appointments we were able to make fix up her teeth with some fillings veeners and crowns. She was a completly diffrent person. When she looked in the mirror she had the biggest smile and started tearing up. I want to be able to make that kind of difference in the world one smile at a time.
• Volenteer work:
o Osim sameach: when I was in Israel for a year I would spend my free time volunteering in an organization that helps cheer up kids in the hospital. This included, setting up and running carnivals in the children’s ward. We also would go around the emergency room and offer food and drinks to the parents/ families of patients that were waiting by their sick family member’s bed side. This would always put a smile on their face and I enjoyed making someones day better even if it was only a little bit
o I also volenteered in bikur cholim of Lakewood. This orginization provides meals for families of sick patients. I helped prepare food in their kitchen, run errands for them as well as deliver food packages to patients’ homes.
