“The Role of Masculinity in Workplace Danger: Analyzing Occupational Risks and Injuries in High-Risk Occupations”

About 97% of the workplace fatalities worldwide are men, and 92% of the workplace fatalities in the United States are men. Review the data on injuries, illnesses, and fatalities from the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics and choose an occupation with a high risk of physical danger. Summarize the specific physical risks involved and what role “normative expectations relating to masculinity” factor into the inherent danger. If you have personal experience with a workplace injury or illness, please share it, if you are comfortable doing so. In your responses to your classmates, ask clarifying questions, expand on each other’s thoughts with relevant ideas from the readings, and share your own experiences.
