Please answer the following essay question.
*Copy and PASTE here into “ASSIGNMENTS” section.
NOTE: You MUST cite your sources. When you quote the textbook or any other source YOU MUST use “quotes” around the text you use when NOT WRITING IN YOUR OWN WORDS. (Include the author’s last name & pg. no. in parenthesis immediately following the quote.)
This assignment requires a visit to an art museum – either in-person or ‘virtual.’ Those who make the effort to visit one of the great museums of the New York area (or wherever you happen to be) are very likely to receive an “A” on this assignment. It MUST be an art museum or gallery (not natural history, for example). If you choose to take a ‘virtual tour’ of a museum, your writing will be scrutinized more closely. The Metropolitan Museum in NYC has an especially good website with virtual tours available (https://www.metmuseum.org/). But you could also visit the Museum of Modern Art (https://www.moma.org/), or even the Louvre in Paris (https://www.louvre.fr/en).
You should choose between 3-5 works to discuss. Get creative. It will really help your paper if you’re able to identify a theme, and assemble works that support this theme. Your theme could relate to subject matter, form, or material – or a combination of these. Think of yourself as a curator of a small exhibition.
You should indicate clearly whether you visited the museum (or museums) you chose in-person or virtually, and you MUST provide some proof of your attendance in person (ie, a ticket stub or photos from your visit).
If you wish, I would also encourage you to explore the the following theme: How has Euro-centrism influenced the “Story of Art” that we have been telling for the past several hundred years in the West? What evidence do you find for the construction and perpetuation of white supremacism within the discipline of “Art History?”
USE THE ARTWORK TOMB EFFIGY OF ELIZABETH BOOTT DUVENECK, BRONZE STATUE OF EROS SLEEPING AND BRONZE STATUETTE OF A BOY IN EASTERN DRESS. These are all from THE MET
