“Exploring Social Issues Through Literature: An Analysis of [Text] and Its Relevance to Contemporary Society”

The paper will give you the opportunity to examine the literature’s engagement with everyday life and or societal issues. Select a text that we have discussed in class (or another with my approval) and, in 4-5 pages, analyze what an assigned text “says about” a particular social issue or concern. You will focus on plot and thematic analysis, characters and historical context (if applicable) to prove your main point. The essay must present a central argument and provide persuasive textual evidence to support and highlight claims, should acknowledge the limits of the analysis and position your arguments in relation to alternative views, and should conclude with a discussion of the cultural significance of the argument. Your essay must include at least three research sources (in addition to the text you are analyzing) – Follow MLA or APA Format –
The ideal essay would include a little bit about the author, analyze the plot and characters and themes, and tie it in as to how it can be used in a specific career or be applied to a cultural or societal issue.
