The aim of this assignment is for you to provide a discussion of the nurses’ role focusing upon the impact of serious illness in relation to a vulnerable group.
The Equality Act (2010) identifies 9 protected characteristics which can make a group or individual more vulnerable to inequality. Explore a group identified by the Act as having a protected characteristic and discuss the wider determinants associated with this group that can increase vulnerability to the impact of serious illness. This may be the impact of the disease from a biological, social or emotional perspective. (LO 1).
Discuss some of the external factors that influence how nurses deliver care, this could a societal, economic or political factor, in relation to your chosen group and the impact of the illness. Consider the nurses role as a health promoter and the skills required to effectively deliver and communicate health promotion messages to your chosen group. The professional role of the nurse, in concordance with the NMC Code of conduct (2018) will be evident throughout your discussion (LO 2).
It is expected that you will use relevant theory and research to support your discussion; this should include evidence from academic books, peer reviewed journals and recent policies and legislation.
