Appendix A – choose THREE poems to analyze in-depth. Each analysis should be approximately 2-3 pages each (700-900 words)
Introduction: This should include the following
A hook of some sort – something to draw the reader in
Title of poem, author, and background information
Brief summary (1-2 sentences) of poem
Connection to novel
Thesis statement – this is where you provide the theme of the poem (which should tie to the novel)
Analysis of Poem (minimum of two paragraphs)
Minimum of two pieces of evidence per paragraph – evidence does not need to be direct quotes, but instead can be paraphrased or referenced portions of poem
Must provide commentary for every piece of evidence used – this is where you ANALYZE the poem
Connection to Novel
Explain how your poem is connected to the novel. You should cite details from your novel at this point in your explanation.
