“Reimagining Punishment: Toward a More Rational and Humane Justice System”

I need a response essay to a reading that follows the prompt — 
Given what we now know about punishment, what can be done to make punishment more rational and more humane?
So it needs to incorporate that through the response to the reading – i have written a few sentences 
— 
The word ‘punishment’ can be written and spoken in the same way by millions of people around the world, but when it comes to understanding and describing its meaning, opinions vary widely. People’s views on how those who have committed crimes should be punished depend on their individual values and morals.  Many of these different theories that justice systems follow and have been following for centuries around the world could be changed to make punishment more rational and more humane.
