Research Project:
Write a five-page (at least 1,250 words) research paper grounded in a text of your choice (an anchor text). This text may be: a text we have already examined, a new text from an author we have already examined, or a text of your choosing.
The text of your choice as well as the research may come from the following places:
an EBSCOhost article or other article found on a similar database
a piece from our class material
a book (ebook, audio book, or hard copy)
a TED Talk
a movie
a TV show
a podcast
a song
a poem
a piece of art
an interview
This is not an exhaustive list. These are just some possibilities.
You determine the focus of your project, but it should consider the following provisions.
Choose an anchor text
Closely read and analyze the piece you choose.
Develop a research question (assertion) that defines your angle for this paper.
Find outside research to support your assertion (s). You need to include at least two outside sources. Possible acceptable choices are listed above.
Define and develop an argument (research question) that incorporates your close reading of the text(s), textual analysis, and outside research. You should quote from your primary text as well as your outside material.
You may choose to incorporate a lens to help narrow your focus. See the material shared on literary criticism.
