Historians generally refer to the period from about 1450 to 1750 as the “early modern era.” This term implies that certain elements of the modern world emerged during this era. Of course, history is always more varied and nuanced than neat chronological boundaries can capture.
Identify one aspect of the modern world that may have emerged during the “early modern” period. Then, explain how that same aspect could also be viewed as a continuation of older patterns, and thus falls short of being fully modern. Use specific examples from the readings to support your response.
