Choose one of the two prompts below and write an essay following that prompt:
Pollan, Jamail & Lappe argue that to make an impact on climate change, citizens will have to begin understanding their relationship to the world differently. Compose an essay in which you draw on the insights and examples from the texts to make your own argument about the ways we could and should live more healthful lives for ourselves and the planet. Be sure to anticipate and address counterarguments to your proposals. (If change were easy, more of us would do it, after all.)
Pollan and other writers in this chapter argue that changing our dietary habits can improve our health and the health of the planet. Compose an essay in which you place Pollan in conversation with either Anna Lappé and or Jamail (Use key ideas and examples from the two authors to build an argument about which changes you think are most pressing, given the evidence you have learned in these pieces. What challenges do you see, and how do you suggest addressing them?
You are required to complete 5 PAGES NOT INCLUDING works cited page. Your research MUST have MINIMUM of 5 academically reliable sources including the attached PDF sources. (You may sources as long as they are academically reliable meaning they come from SIRS Knowledge Source, Academic Search Premier or any other Library Database) No google or Wikipedia as part of the 5 sources.
The purpose of your paper is to investigate, to explore, in depth, economic, racial and financial inequality. Make an assumption based on your analysis of the readings, perception of the situation and personal input based on what is important to you and your values. Take a stand and argue your position with that stance. You must make effective use of concession and a counter argument.
Structure
You may choose to structure your paper in the following way but feel free to change things around to make the structure fit your purpose.
Intro section that summarizes the issue. What about your issue is important? When is it taking place? Who is involved in the issue and why are they affected? Background section that traces the development of the issue. How did this issue come to be important or draw attention? Why is this issue important or worth researching? At the end of paragraph, include 1 MAIN CLAIM: Clear precise position statement.
A description of your thoughts and your take on the issue. Provide claims that give your insight. Support these claims with evidence from your research. Make assumptions with regards to your issue. (ARGUMENT SYNTHESIS). *** 3 MINOR CLAIMS & 1 CONCESSION with COUNTER ARGUMENT ***
Bring your conversation to an end by providing final thoughts and a possible answer to your research question found from your research, if any.
